Mike Schramm reports for TUAW, “Talk about burying the lead — Shufflegazine did a fluffy little piece on Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Hwang [sic] during a visit to Dubai recently, in which he talks about how much he and his family love their Macs, and Apple’s machines add value, and in his house it’s just ‘Mac, Mac, Mac,’ and OH MY GOD, what is that SITTING ON THE TABLE in front of him?
“This picture just appeared with Shufflegazine’s little piece and… there’s not word one about that tablet or anything like it in the piece, no hint of any other hardware or partnership announcement,” Schramm reports. “It could be a prototype, it could be another tablet we’re just not recognizing, or yes, Hwang could have just thrown it down on the table during the interview, and Shufflegazine could have just completely missed it.”

Shufflegazine’s article is here.
MacDailyNews Take: For Huang’s and Nvidia’s sake, we hope that’s not an Apple prototype, especially since it seems to be suffering from Microsoft’s patent-pending Red Ring of Death.
I’m with DLMeyer. It looks more like a Big Ass Table
Ratatouille is playing on the device… in case anyone missed that… or wants to draw any conclusions based on that.
The Dude abides.
Romanized spelling of chinese characters have changed over time, with various spelling systems currently in use depending upon where you were born. If he were born in Taiwan, his last name very likely could have been spelled Hwang. If he were born in mainland China then Huang would be the likely spelling.
I’m going to guess, but since he’s the CEO of Nvidia, I’ll wager he was born outside of China, probably in Taiwan and emigrated to the US, so it’s very likely he was born with the last name of Hwang.
@ Mark S.
No, he looks like a guy describing a fish he once caught.
Speaking of Big Fish Stories, this reeks of one. But at least it’s slightly more authentic than the popups the MDN throws at us. Did you hear? Google is hiring people to work from home! Gosh! Is this REAL?!?! Hey, the comments are closed due to spam! Shuckerroo, this sounds too good to be true!!!
the home button at the bottom of the screen is raised and convex, not concave and flush like and Apple home button. It’s the angles and the little things that make the competition look like crapola.
LOL, I should have just looked at his first and middle name, Jen Hsun. That’s not how they would spell his name in Mainland China. It would be something like Chen Xun. So, it seems odd to me that he would spell his last name Huang, seeing as he spells his first and middle names Jen Hsun. You would more commonly see his name spelled: Hwang Jen Hsun if he were born outside China, and Huang Chen Xun if he were born inside China. So, spelling it the way he does is a bit of a mix and a little odd.
Speaking of Transportables, I remember being the named gofer to haul a TI “portable” to a business meeting back in 1984. About 35 lbs.
All it needed was the launch codes.
@January 24, 1984
As in “the” football?
Fun duty. Spent time with WHCA
Give me a break. Remember the iPhone, folks? Even the ATT execs never saw it until moments before Steve’s presentation in January 2007. Apple would *never* allow a prototype out of their secret underground lab, let alone leave it with some guy. Maybe Steve Jobs has one at home, but I seriously doubt even that. Only a handful of people at Apple have even seen the thing — most are working on it without knowledge of what they are working on.
@ zmarc
You’re right of course. And on top of that, no tablet that Apple made would ever be that ugly. What it looks like to me is the screen from an HP notebook.
CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR!
It does not look smooth and sleek enough to be Apple.
From the updated Shufflegazine article:
“Update: Through other people present at the event who played with the tablet a bit (I didn’t) I’ve been told it’s a Tegra based tablet that NVIDIA have developed to show off to various companies. This one was made for T-Mobile and carried their logo.”
Peace.
Lets hope that Nvidia DO have an x86 licence and the tablet will be capable of running with low power portably (PA Semi ARM), with Mac/iPhone/Win(Parallels) apps using the x86 and fast using Nvidia graphics.
The protector cases are going to be enormous!
FAKE!!!
@TT
Very nice take again. Always appreciate your humor. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”LOL” style=”border:0;” />
It is spelled Huang but it is pronounced Throat-Warbler Mangrove.
Thank you! Try the veal I’ll be here all week.
What I don’t get is how you’re supposed to type on the round surface. Apple would never use a blue screw cap. And what’s that liquid doing in there?
I smell a rat! Why is he watching Ratatouille?
If anyone even thinks for a SECOND that that thing comes from Apple, even as a prototype, then they sure as heck don’t know Apple and Ives’ design.
That thing is either from another company or as someone wrote, something made specifically for him, or a hundred for his company.
It is NOT an Apple tablet or prototype or anything Apple.
And yes, it is smaller than it looks. The type of lens used makes it look much bigger than it is, but I don’t think it’s even down to 9 inches.
As many have said before…
There’s nothing here to see. Move on.
@ Anim8me2
You’re a very silly person, and I’m not going to reply to you any more.
…unless, you come on a camping holiday with me.
caption competition:
“and I’ve seen Microsofts tablet and it’s like THIS BIG yeah”
Don’t expect anything, because it’s just a prototype (if it is). And prototypes are usually 2 times worse then finished product.
I thought about saying something about the spelling “controversy”, thought better about it. Now I’ve changed my mind.
My last name is spelled “MEYER. My German cousins all spell their last name slightly differently. Many of my American cousins spell it differently as well, but none of us spell it the way the Germans do. Can’t. Don’t have the available accents. Meyer, Meir, Mayer, Mahr … with or without an “s” at the end. All right, for the person born with that spelling.
The correct way to spell a person’s name is the way that person would have it spelled, within the limits of the law. I don’t care if they are from Shanghai or Taiwan … if he says it’s Hwang, not Huang, that’s what it is. End of discussion.
“and OH MY GOD,”
Haha. Funny writing. Good job.
