MacDailyNews Take: Core i5/i7 MacBook Pro models loom?

[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “James W.” for the heads up.]

  1. Quad core is WAY to hot and consumes WAY too much energy to put in a laptop. Sorry MDN, but I seriously doubt that Core i5 or i7 will show up in MBPs any time soon…

  2. @MacMan then how do you explain this little GRR Google Reasearch Result? An old friend of mine just bought a new HP Quad laptop after his AlienWare was recalled to the Mothership. Lol 

    $4,924.38 new Provantage

  3. I love how when there’s serious hardware in a non-Apple laptop its always called a “gaming” machine but when the same hardware is in an Apple product its just a “Macbook or Macbook Pro”…..

  4. @unclemacosx – They can put the quad core in anything, but it has to be useable. These laptops are basically useless unless you have them plugged in and they weigh a freakin ton. Why not just buy a desktop? Apple isn’t going to come out with a laptop that can’t be unplugged for more than 2 hours.

Lenovo W700DS – battery life is 2.1 hours with just over a hour DVD playback

The Hypersonic weighs almost 12 lbs!!!!!

Alienware M17x battery life is 1 hour 30 min and weighs 11 lbs

  5. @Mick James:

Interesting point. I have a pet peeve involving Apple, where the Minis, and iMacs are always referred to as the “consumer” models, and anything with “Pro” in the name is always presumes to appeal to professionals only, which not only stupid but wrong anyway. What’s wrong with a fast machine at home?

Do I have to be a pro race car driver to own a Porsche?

  6. My bad- yes, the i5/i7 are designed for laptops. BUT, I can’t imagine that they are as powerful as the desktop models.

Still, it would be nice to have that power (as long as it doesn’t suck the battery dry too quickly…)
