Microsoft’s Mojave-For-Real, Vista service pack, er, “Windows 7” was inflicted yesterday and a Japanese TV show checked it out. It’s in Japanese, but no translation is necessary:

By the way, Apple has incorporated Multi-Touch™ into their OS in the correct way, on spacious trackpads and the Magic Mouse, not on a vertical screen where fingerprints smudge and users’ arms would quickly tire in what everyone — everyone outside of the PC box assemblers and Microsoft, that is — calls “Gorilla Arm.”
Only Microsoft, in typical half-assed fashion, would take exactly the device designed for viewing and occlude it intentionally when there are far better, far more logical solutions. Perhaps Apple’s patent portfolio has consigned Microsoft to the display ghetto for their ill-conceived touch inputs? If so, we smile.
To us longtime Apple watchers, Cupertino seems to be saying quite clearly, “Multi-Touch™ on the screen only when trackpads/mice are not available/part of the device.“

As much as I would love to say that was Windows failing, it seemed to be the touchscreen hardware.
That being said, it is the problem with windows that MS doesn’t know what crappy components dell or hp are throwing in there at any given time.
What utter rubbish it proves to be.
Yes, well, that seemed to go well. Yup. No problems there. Maybe it would have been more entertaining if they’d let the female geek give the presentation? Naw … geeks are no fun!
That was a big, beautiful screen, though, wasn’t it? And the windows moved about smoothly, when they moved about, didn’t they? Almost worth getting Gorilla-arms over!

Was it the hardware failing?? What was she doing what looked like a reboot?? Was that to restart the software or something for the hardware?? Either way, get your fingers off my screen!!
What were they going to do with multi touch though? Move some windows around the screen and randomly make things bigger and smaller probably. Great.

Is that even a touchscreen monitor? I guess they wouldn’t make that big of a goof. Still, it does look bad…
Leave it to MS to implement the feature that I guarantee you Apple will not: a touchscreen interface on a traditional desktop computer. Apple knows that this configuration will not work, but MS say what the hell it’s technology lets just throw it out there without giving it any thought.

I’ve never set up a touch screen. But my guess is they hooked up the screen for output, but neglected to connect a USB cable for the input.

Microsoft can program all they want, but it’s not going to change the fact that there will never be a consistant experience when your have so many hardware combinations and conflicts. Apple’s vertical approach is slowly gaining market share.

It’s high-profile demos like this that can kill a product. Not that W7 represents even a shadow of the Newton’s level and breadth of innovation.

Microsoft’s revolutionary touch screen technology is incredible You don’t even need a stupid mouse like you do for MAC. Did you MAC fangirls see how you can just touch the screen to do stuff? Belittle it all you want, MAC sheep, but you’re scared.
