“We were curious to see why Apple thought the MacBook Polycarbonate Unibody was so special, so we took it apart! We got the MacBook from our local Apple store on October 20, 2009,” iFixit reports.
“Apple has made a bunch of changes to their base workhorse, including a polycarbonate unibody upper case,” iFixit reports. “The case revision also allowed Apple to update the aesthetics on the new Macbook. Its contoured edges fit right in with the rest of the unibody lineup.”
“This new MacBook weighs in at 4.7 lbs. That’s .3 lbs less than the old plastic MacBook, but .2 lbs more than the 13″ Unibody MacBook Pro,” iFixit reports. “The lower case is surprisingly heavy, weighing in at 266 grams. The lower case is actually a sheet of aluminum with rubberized coating injection-molded onto one side. In contrast, the lower case on the 13″ Pro weighs only 142 grams, so the rubber coating nearly doubles the part’s weight.”

Awwww… poor MDN, I had no idea you were so squeamish…
They got rid of the remote sensors and put out a new remote the same day, a good laugh. Apple keeps removing Firewire, I guess they needed the space. The new trackpad, CPU and GPU could be the reason, all in all they are more important than FW. The new body seems to be strong, better than most other plastic PC’s. I thought the old one had drop sensors also, if not this is a grate improvement. That is a great selling point, and the track pad. Every day use is much better than the $700.00 PC’s, I hope Apple starts using these points in their sales pitches.
Strange … today my iBook was seriously reluctant to boot up. Real? Imagined? Wishful thinking? Don’t really know. This beast has been in constant use for several years now, powered off maybe a dozen times a year in that time. Yeoman service!

No battery indecator on the outside. This is really bad for students. No firewire, no remote, no way I would buy this peice of crap. The old model was better!
