RUMOR: Apple soon to enable FM radio in iPhone and iPod touch

“We’ve just received a tip that an iPhone radio.app is being developed in-house by Apple for use on the iPhone and iPod touch. From what we know, the app will be allowed to operate in the background like iPod.app and will offer the same functionality as the FM radio in the new iPod nanos,” Seth Weintraub reports for 9 to 5 Mac.

“The source mentioned that this application could also be incorporated into the iPod.app before release,” Weintraub reports. “Though it wasn’t specified, the app will likely have the same Live Pause functionality that the Nanos currently enjoy.”

Weintraub reports, “Apple’s iPods and iPhones have been able to receive FM radio signals for some time now [and] this wouldn’t be the first time Apple awoke sleeping hardware functionality from its mobile products… For instance, Apple didn’t enable Bluetooth in its 2nd generation iPod touch until 9 months after it was released.”

  1. yeah, but when are they going to enable the cassette tape option…. THAT’S what I’m waiting for.

@iPhoner…. I’d love to talk smack at you about this monday night’s game, being a Charger fan and as I’ll be there in the east end zone. But unless we find a Nose Tackle on waivers this week, this game is already over. Your defense looks pretty stout.

  2. I know this is off topic but I have a Mac vs PC debate going on I need your help. He wants to compare an evenly matched (spec for spec) Mac with a PC it’s a $100 bet that a PC is cheaper. Help me compare I need to win this. Thanks in advance

  3. @Jim – TIV

With the smackdown the Chargers have given the Broncos the last few years I wouldn’t count them out. Division rivals always play each other tough regardless of the year. (Except for the Raiders – Haha – Long Live Al Davis!)

Bookies have Chargers favored by 3.5? Huh?

Whats your take on McDaniels? I hated the Cutler trade but it seems like the man knows what he’s doing.

  4. @ Silver Surfer:

If it is really an spec for spec bet and that means the same quality, you would have to compare the best PC against a Mac. All things considered, the best PC to run any Windows OS is a mac.

    So its a tie.

    Just my $0.02

  5. I suppose this is to attract the holds out that “MUST HAVE” FM radio on their player. Personally I haven’t listened to FM Radio in years, but its good for Apple to add it for those users who are holding out for radio.

  6. iPhoner…. I like McDaniels. He was a great OC and I think he’s brought a new toughness to the Broncos that hasn’t been seen since #7. I actually hated the trade for personal reasons, Cutler always found a way to lose to us. And… it was always so fun watching him pout about it. Yeah he puts up great yardage, but you can get in his head. And that’s what Rivers and our D were really good at.

The problem with the Charges this year is that we can’t run, and we can’t stop the run. We pass like the air Coryell days of old, and we can stop the pass. The Oakland game was brutal. 5 players out with injury, 2 pro-bowl lineman (our center and our nose tackle). And you just can’t run without a great center, and you can’t play the 3/4 defense without a stud nose tackle.

There’s been rumors that Cleveland is willing to trade their hot shot NT to us this week, but we’ll see. The Spanos’ are notoriously tight fisted, at least until they ponied up serious $$ for Rivers renewal this year.

Should be a great game, only one I have time to go to this year.

Sounds like football – played with the hands. Man U for the Premier League.
