‘Welcome to Macintosh’ doc hits Apple’s iTunes Store, retail DVD racks

“Welcome to Macintosh,” the independent documentary highlighting Apple’s history and fan following, is now available as a download on the iTunes Store as well as on DVD through major media retailers including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Best Buy, Borders, Buy.com and F.Y.E.

“Welcome to Macintosh” is a feature-length documentary that explores the many ways Apple Inc. has changed the world. Notable Apple personalities appearing in the film include Andy Hertzfeld, co-creator of the original Macintosh, Guy Kawasaki, long time Mac evangelist and Leander Kahney, author of the book “Cult of Mac,” just to name a few.

“The goal was to make a film that you can show to anyone, even someone that has never used a computer, and have them understand why so many people love Macintosh,” says Rob Baca, one of the film’s co-directors, in the press release. “Thousands of DVDs have been sold and more are on order. That, along with thousands of views via the Netflix Instant Queue in the first week of release, tells us interest continues to grow.”

“Make no mistake, this film is about as independent as you can get. No studio, no bankroll, just two dedicated Apple fans and their credit cards. The result has been life-changing for the both of us,” adds Josh Rizzo, co-director of the film, in the press release. “We have received a lot of support from members of the Mac Community and we could not have done this without them.”

This spring, Apple co-founder and entrepreneur, Steve Wozniak commented that “Welcome to Macintosh” was “So much on the mark… I’ve been involved with some other independent films and this is by far the best one I’ve seen.”

Andy Hertzfeld, co-creator of the Mac and author of “Revolution in The Valley” said that “‘Welcome to Macintosh’ captures and exemplifies the unique spirit expressed in Apple’s products.”

Ron Wayne, co-founder of the Apple Computer Company and author of “Nature of Money,” said “‘Welcome to Macintosh’ is an entertaining and illuminating look at the people and events that made Apple and the Macintosh the phenomenon it is today.”

Leander Kahney, Author of “Inside Steve’s Brain” and “Cult of Mac,” said that “Welcome to Macintosh” “…is an insightful look at Apple history and a ton of fun to watch!”

“Every Mac user should watch this movie,” says Guy Kawasaki, original Mac evangelist, author and entrepreneur.

“Welcome to Macintosh” has been presented in over fifty Macintosh User Groups around the world as well as an official selection in seven international film festivals, including the 10th Annual Wisconsin Film Festival, the 4th Globians World and Culture Documentary Film Festival, the 1st Ann. Naperville Independent Film Fest, the Texandance International Film Festival as well as the Cleveland Ingenuity Festival.

  1. “and maybe this phone will change the world” – shows how long it took to get the film produced and to market ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” /> We KNOW it already has changed the world!!!

Congrats on a nice film despite the minor criticism there LOL.

  2. I wish the producers of this had decided to show the names of the interviewees. Although most of us long-time Mac users will recognize most of them, several years from now, when a new wave of Mac users grow up to be interested in this, they won’t know who they are / were.

Names, titles, info about them would’ve helped this project gain some longevity. Hope they fix this in the 2.0 version.

    MaWo: ‘later’.

  3. Looks like it covers some of the same ground as MacHeads. In fact, many of the people interviewed and highlighted are the some ones from MacHeads. But hey, who can ever get enough movies or books about Apple? Not me. I’ll be buying it today from iTunes.

  4. Yeah definitely very friendly for the people! Most of the posts in the blog touch off with absolute consciousness… Thanks for the counsel! None of the writing services could cater such an opportunity, all they can do is to make me buy custom essay papers which are not peerless. The only thing you’ve got to notice trying to make an unique production is that you can buy term paper or buy research paper about whatever. But remember, to make review about this post is not an accessible task. Thanks.
