Apple targets sports fans with latest iPhone 3GS television ad (with video)

Apple has begun airing a new television ad for iPhone 3GS that targets sports fans. The ad has been running in live sporting events and sports-related programming since August 20, but over the past day or two now seems to be running more often and now in non-sports programming, too.

In the ad, called “Avid,” the voice-over states, “The iPhone is pretty great for sports fans.” The spot then shows “Golfshot: Golf GPS (US$29.99),” a GPS-based golf range finder app for “avid golfers,” the “MLB.com At Bat 2009 (US $9.99)” app for “avid baseball fans” (one of our favorite apps), and the “TouchSports™ Tennis ’09 (US$0.99)” game for “avid tennis players.”

The voice-over concludes, “Because there’s an app for just about anything. Only on the iPhone.”

  1. So when is Steve going to force MLB and the teams to get rid of the antiquated notion of BLACKOUT RESTRICTIONS.

I can NEVER see my home team play. I’m not so AVID a baseball fan that I want to see other cities play each other.

  2. @Macaday

“Since when has Wimbledon ‘Center Court’ been clay surface.”

What are you talking about? They never said which center court they are talking about. Clearly this is the center court at Roland Garros. Granted, they have renamed it ‘Court Philippe Chatrier’ but it most tournaments have a ‘center court’ not just ones played on grass.

  3. @$80.86,
“Ugh. It goes on and on, like the music. The iPhone is now the iPod in it’s final years, ready to be herded out to pasture for the next big thing. Bring on the tablet already,”

    Spoken like a true Zune fan. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

I predict many years of suffering ahead, each more painful than the last.

    Just a thought,

  4. And the commercials continue to drive home the point that “there’s an app for just about anything”. It’s a repeating refrain which is meticulously being carved into the unsuspecting masses’ minds.

Why would anyone buy ANY other smartphone, when there’s an “app for just about anything” on the iPhone?
