“It has happened every September since 2005, and in a few short weeks it will happen once again. Apple is indeed planning a keynote event for the week of Sept. 7, as reported by my colleague, Peter Kafka,” John Paczkowski reports for AllThingsD. “And according to sources close to the company, the date is Wednesday, Sept. 9.”
The event, “is expected to showcase upgrades to the iPod line and an update to iTunes that may involve some sort of social element. Our sources insist it will not involve any discussion whatsoever of the tablet Apple is reportedly developing,” Paczkowski reports.

Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music announced back on April 7, 2009 the release of the original Beatles catalog, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of the “The Beatles: Rock Band” video game. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.
According to Apple Corps Ltd., the albums have been remastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period utilizing state of the art recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalog has seen since its original release.
The collection comprises all 12 Beatles albums in stereo, with track listings and artwork as originally released in the UK, and ‘Magical Mystery Tour,’ which became part of The Beatles’ core catalog when the CDs were first released in 1987. In addition, the collections ‘Past Masters Vol. I and II’ are now combined as one title, for a total of 14 titles over 16 discs. This will mark the first time that the first four Beatles albums will be available in stereo in their entirety on compact disc. These 14 albums, along with a DVD collection of the documentaries, will also be available for purchase together in a stereo boxed set.
Within each CD’s new packaging, booklets include detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. With the exception of the ‘Past Masters’ set, newly produced mini-documentaries on the making of each album, directed by Bob Smeaton, are included as QuickTime files on each album. The documentaries contain archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere.
A second boxed set has been created with the collector in mind. ‘The Beatles in Mono’ gathers together, in one place, all of the Beatles recordings that were mixed for a mono release. It will contain 10 of the albums with their original mono mixes, plus two further discs of mono masters (covering similar ground to the stereo tracks on ‘Past Masters’). As an added bonus, the mono “Help!” and “Rubber Soul” discs also include the original 1965 stereo mixes, which have not been previously released on CD. These albums will be packaged in mini-vinyl CD replicas of the original sleeves with all original inserts and label designs retained.
Also, eagle-eyed MacDailyNewsReader “Ned G.” reports that the September 2009 issue of Bass Player magazine (not yet available online) states:
“For modern-day Beatles fans, access to such brilliant recordings as ‘Hey Bulldog’ is about to get a whole lot easier, and that’s cause for celebration, indeed.”

What is the big deal about the Beatles on iTunes?? If you really want them on the iPod, haven’t you already ripped it from a CD? People used iPods BEFORE there ever was an iTunes Store.
The tablet is a dumb concept. Why is this even a rumor to begin with? It failed five years ago! No one wants one. If anything the tablet is the iPhone! For the freak who started this rumor should be shot. I am so sick to of hearing about the Apple Tablet for the last 2 years. Get over it! Its not going to happen. Hell would have to freeze over for Apple to pick up the dumbest concept on the planet. If Bill Gates things its cool, you know to run the other direction.

There are many people, old and young, who care about the Beatles. Any self-respecting musician does also. 9 was Lennon’s favorite number- because it is the highest single number: #9 Dream. Revolution #9… 9/9/09. it’s gonna be good.
With music like this, you don’t want compessed crud. iTunes rocks but for this stuff it has to be CD ripped.

I hope the pricing of the boxed Beatles set will not be outragously hight, otherwise I need to wait 2 weeks for the Chinese copy set for one tenth of the price.
@Geddy — get a clue. There probably isn’t 1 person in 100 that can hear the difference between 256 kbps AAC and uncompressed CD audio. Any “crud” that’s audible is probably 16-bit quantization noise that’s present on the CD to begin with.
