Beleaguered Palm sucking wind; Eos ‘Pixie’ may be delayed to 2010, Pre sales continue to plummet

Apple Online Store “Palm’s next webOS handset, the so-called Eos (codename: Pixie)” — that was supposed to be ready in time to peddle to the oblivious in time for Christmas — may have slipped into 2010, according to a report from AllThingsD’s John Paczkowski.

As if that’s not bad enough news for Palm’s assemblage of Apple castoffs, Paczkowski reports that Morgan Joseph Analyst Ilya Grozovsky recently wrote in a research note to clients, “‘We do not have significant unit assumptions for this product given the continued success of the iPhone at AT&T.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Ouch. Will Palm even make it to 2010?

Oh, and BTW, Paczkowski also reports, “Grozovsky is among those analysts who believe Pre sales are slowing. According to his checks, Pre sales fell from 200,000 units in June to 100,000 in July. He expects them to fall even further in August. And should this occur, a price cut may follow.”

MacDailyNews Take: Double ouch. Look on the bright side, Palm, with so few units out in the wild, it’ll be a cinch to clandestinely keep track of your users’ locations and apps. wink

MacDailyNews Take: Beleaguered Palm has been running on fumes for quite some time now, so it’s no surprise that it’s misfiring on all cylinders. This is what happens when a desperate, dying company dangles takeover bait and nobody bites.

  1. Sprint nor Palm could afford a price cut. How many hundreds of millions have they wasted on that cheesy marketing campaign that seems to be everywhere?

Apple is really putting the squeeze on Palm. With the iPhone 3G at $99 and the iPhone 3GS at $199, they can’t win.

  2. Move along I-Phone lemmings, nothing to see here. Palm can simply license Windows Mobile for Pre and all their troubles will be over. I commend Palm on giving webOS a shot, but Windows Mobile will give them a much needed shot in the arm.

I’ll remind you MAC sheep that you can edit Office documents with Windows Mobile, and you can’t do that on an I-Phone. You can make burp and fart noises however.

    Your potential. Our passion.™

  3. This week, “Beleaguered Palm sucking wind”.

Last week, “Beleaguered Microsoft whistling in the dark”.

I perceive a gassy motif in the making. (The economy is still rather volatile, after all.)

Tune in next week when we find a beleaguered company blowing smoke.

  4. Zune Tang roolz! SJ droolz!

My MAC doesn’t even have a registry… I’ll be the first switcher to Windows 7. Once my i-Phone contract runs out, it’ll be WinMo for me!! And think of all the hardware options I’ll have! Long live Ballmer!

  5. What ever happened to ‘oneAwake’?

    I remember his statement:

“Once the general public sees the TV AD, Palm Pre sells are going to be massive” ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  6. Missing appointments. I think this qualifies as the first sign of Palm having had a stroke. Watch for slurred speech and limping.

I’m not enjoying this. But I am getting a good idea of why Rubenstein no longer works at Apple. Imagine him in charge of the iPhone project. OMFG.

  7. I haven’t seen a dancing Asian or Yoga woman commercial peddling the Pre in quite some time. It’s been all iPhone terrorist contact fist bump and Crackberry commercials. Oh, and that God forsaken PC Lauren and HP Lauren tag team commercial.

With the lack of advertising, it’s clear that the Pre is not gaining the market or mind share it had hoped and probably anticipated for. They need to shut it on down and give the money back to the shareholders before their shares sink back to a more realistic valuation.

  8. ZT, ZT, ZT. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.

You may be “in” the game, but in your post you’re not “back on your game.”

The iPhone can edit Office Documents. It just has the problem of doing it better, that’s all.

    My potention. Your poison.

    he he

ZT. You’re sometimes even better than the Fake Steve Jobs. lol

  9. Grow up, idiots. You can call Palm beleageured every day for the next 5 year, but your analysis of the newsflow around Palm stinks. All you do is quote the most moronic analysts, and that is really glorifying them. What are you – 11 years old? At a minimum, the people trying to re-architect Palm have created both an O/S and integrated it with hardware – what have you accomplished besides shilling for a company that 20 years ago was in exactly the same position as Palm was in January; back then you talentless fools would have called Apple beleageured.

  10. |So we can take it that the Palm hype over the Pre was all just that… a.load of hot air.

And no, someone from Palm may think this is all childish, but it isn’t, it’s what happens when hype meets reality.

Next time Palm, keep your mouths firmly shut until the verdicts are in.

  11. JadisOne sez: “I haven’t seen a dancing Asian or Yoga woman commercial peddling the Pre in quite some time.”

I am sad to report that the red haired freak Yoga woman hit the airwaves in my TV market (central New York State) this past week. She’s still disturbing to see, but they have edited out the most freaky bits from the rest of the ads.

Apparently Palm are desperately thrashing around US markets looking for someone to buy the Pre thing. Undoubtedly the cost for ad time has dropped in my area, explaining why ‘She’ arrived. She does not make me happy. No. 🙁

  12. Some coward anonymously signed in as ‘Geddy’ sez the usual troll drivel.

Yeah ‘Geddy’. We noticed that you aren’t brave enough to register here. Just another hit and run troll. Yes, we suggest get a life. But you already knew we would. There. Happy now?

  13. Poor, poor, derekcurrie. He/she believes that registering with MDN is a virtue. Be braver than most, DC, and post your real name and address. Too bad little derekcurrie doesn’t consider abstaining from illogical thinking something admirable or desirable.
