The chief executive of HMV has quit the race to head up ITV despite being considered as one of the frontrunners for the role, Edmund Conway reports for The Telegraph. Simon Fox opted instead to remain at the music and film retail group as it enters into the third and final year of a turnaround plan, according to the report.
“The decision leaves two leading outside candidates – Apple Computer’s European head Pascal Cagni and former BSkyB chief executive Tony Ball – while a number of internal ITV candidates, including chief operating officer John Cresswell, could be in the running,” Conway reports. “Last month, six candidates, who are also thought to have included Guillaume de Posch, former chief executive and chairman of ProSiebenSat.1, met ITV’s board, which is trying to find a replacement for Michael Grade, who is relinquishing day-to-day control to become non-executive chairman.”

For all the non brits, ITV is the UK’s largest commercial TV company.
