“The combination of Apple TV 2.4 and Remote 1.3 provides a new Control button that can be dragged into the bottom icon bar and serves as an alternative to the regular navigation controls on the iPhone or iPod touch,” Malley reports.
“In the main menus, users can flick or drag a finger across the screen to scroll through items; a tap selects the current item. Pressing and holding on a “menu” item moves back up one level in the Apple TV’s interface,” Malley reports.
“Controls are significantly more complex within playback but mimic actions that would normally require a mouse on a computer,” Malley reports. “In testing, it works extremely well.”

1. Select Settings > General using your Apple Remote.
2. Select Update Software.
3. Select Download Now to start the download process.
4. When the update has finished downloading, select Update Now.
During the update process, your Apple TV will conduct a restart which is followed by the Apple logo and a status bar. (Note: On some TVs, the screen may display black for up to 15 minutes and the Apple TV may flash an amber light; this is expected behavior. Do not unplug your Apple TV during the update process.) After the final restart, your Apple TV plays the opening video and returns to the main menu.
