“A federal jury on Wednesday told Microsoft Corp. to pay $388 million to a Singapore software company for infringing its intellectual property, in the latest potentially costly patent litigation loss for the software giant,” John Letzing reports for MarketWatch.
“A jury in U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island found that Microsoft’s anti-piracy registration system infringes on a patent owned by security software maker Uniloc Singapore Private Ltd. and its U.S. subsidiary,” Letzing reports.
“A Microsoft spokesman said in a statement that, ‘We are very disappointed in the jury verdict. We believe that we do not infringe, that the patent is invalid and that this award of damages is legally and factually unsupported,'” Letzing reports. “The spokesman added that, ‘We will ask the court to overturn the verdict.'”
