Sydney Morning Herald reviews Apple iWork ‘09: 4 out of 5 stars

“The fourth generation of Apple’s iWork software suite for the Mac may not be a giant leap from the current iWork ’08 edition but it certainly takes a long, confident stride ahead,” David Flynn reports for The Sydney Morning Herald.

“The spreadsheet program – Numbers ’09 – boasts a raft of new functions and better handling of formulae, both of which are the building blocks of this type of application. You can now keep row or column headers in view as you scroll through a multi-page sheet… [but], the biggest win is the streamlined ability to place Numbers charts or tables into a Pages document and keep a live link between the two. Change the chart in Numbers and it’s automatically updated in the Pages document. This also applies to Keynote presentations,” Flynn reports.

“Pages still beats Microsoft Word at creating flexible document layouts with text, pictures, tables and other elements… By comparison, Keynote ’09 has the fewest advances, although it’s still the quickest way for students and salespeople to whip up an impressive slideshow,” Flynn reports.
