Who chooses the tunes for Apple’s iPod commercials?  CEO Steve Jobs

“Ever wonder how those catchy tunes find their way into Apple’s iPod commercials? You’ll have to look no further than the ear of chief executive Steve Jobs,” AppleInsider reports.

“In a SongFacts interview with the Asteroids Galaxy Tour, beatmaker Lars Iversen explains how his band’s hyperkinetic track Around The Bend was selected as the jingle for Apple’s second-generation iPod touch television ad,” AppleInsider reports.

“The Danish band is represented in the United States by a little-known company called Synch, which managed to get in touch with Apple and arrange for a sit down meeting with Jobs himself,” AppleInsider reports.

  1. No wonder the music is so whitewashed. Rap has been one of the most dominant genres the past two decades and shows no signs of waning. How much of iTunes sales can be attributed to rap? How much have rappers contributed to Apple’s dominance by displaying their various products in music videos for free? But there hasn’t been a single Hip-Hop act featured in one of these commercials. Plenty of white ass rock and pop from half dead acts like Bob Dylan, though. I wonder how many songs he sold on iTunes vs. 50 Cent.

  2. If I owned Apple I would put the music I like in the ads as well. This would also NOT include Rap/Hip Hop. I would use it as a medium to give exposure to the musical underdogs I love. Hip Hop is so dominant that i am glad to not have to hear it in an Apple ad as well. If you want hip hop, just turn on the radio or mtv.

  3. To even suggest that is slander for starters, and to even imagine it is preposterous.

The mix of music in the ads as well as for the keynotes has been wide and interesting. A little bit of something for everyone. I don’t enjoy all of it, but I don’t expect to. Why should Apple push more rap than any other music? What about Jazz? Classical? Big Band? Reggae? Heavy Metal? Hard Rock?

Why is there no AC/DC on the iTunes store??? OMG!!! Alert the media.

  4. R2,

Thanks to mainstream media accomplices, you got an untested, inexperienced, oreo into the White House. Isn’t that enough for you?

For once, I’d love to see the blacks reflected properly in proportion to their percentage of U.S. population (12.8%) instead of having black “culture” shoved in our faces constantly.

There are only so many sideways hats, ridiculous falling-down baggy pants, and ebonics stupidity that normal people can take.

    Happy Kwanzaa!

Next you’ll complain about the iMac’s color (white). Go buy a black Dell if you’re so narrow minded and ignorant.

…geez. We’re in 2008 and we still get that racist sht stuff. On a computer related site. For crying out loud, get a life!
