“What do you get if you take an iPhone, remove the clean UI, user friendliness, nice industrial design, battery life, cachet, functional OS, and in general everything else that makes it worthwhile? The new Microsoft phone, powered by Nvidia,” Charlie Demerjian reports for The Inquirer.
“Yeah, you heard it right, MS is going to make its own branded phone, after all, everyone kicking the company around the block has one, so it should too! If you were wondering why Nvidia never mentions the phrase Linux when talking Tegra, even though it is the most appropriate OS for the chip, now you know. NV appears to have sold Linux out to get the MS flagship deal, how nice of them,” Demerjian reports.
Demerjian reports, “The phone is slated to be announced at 3GSM this coming February, so if you plan on attending, please look surprised when MS unveils it. No word on when it will hit the streets but it probably won’t be long after that. We think this ‘me too’ phone will have all the success of the Zune.”

The Microtanic is rudderless and meandering around ever more wildly pinballing off icebergs.
Attention Windows Mobile phone makers: You’ve been PlayedForSure. Are you going to learn your lesson this time? Try googling “Android.”
Microsoft is not to be trusted. Microsoft will extoll the horizontal model until the day the defecate on their “partners” and go vertical – copying Apple yet again – with a Microsoft-branded “solution.”
“We have our strategy, we’ve got great Windows Mobile devices in the market today… I like our strategy. I like it a lot.” Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO Ballmer laughs at Apple iPhone – January 17, 2007
Like Zune, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS is a joke.
And Microsoft’s branded phone will ultimately fail. iCal it.

Zune Phone anyone?
Didn’t Ballmer state something like, “they have there strategy, we have ours”. Apparently theirs is not working very well.
Keep it up boys!!!
When the stocks recover and all this crap is on the market, it makes everyone else look just that much better!!
Go Zune, Go MicroShit Phone, whoopeee!!
Microtanic!!!! Hilarious… That made my day.
Unload your AAPL stock now while you still have a chance. Remember how the Zune killed off the iPod’s market share.
yeah
whatever
It’s very comical how Microsoft is constantly ‘one’ step behind with everything. I can only imagine the ‘innovations’ that will be in this product. Microsoft is tanking fast now.
from Zune to Zone in one easy step
Who’d have believed it!
If Ballmer is staying at the helm of Microsoft until his kids graduate high school (as he has said previously), the shareholders had better hope his kids are Mensa prodigies and graduate WAAAAAY early.
Of course, we Apple fans hope his kids are as dumb as dirt and need to repeat several grades.
Zune had absolutely no chance. A poorly concieved and poorly executed consumer product, battling it against the essence of form, function and style.
However, a smartphone is going, at least partly, at enterprise. As we all know, the enterprise currently still belongs to MS (where CIOs just love to have that vaseline tube in their pocket when their MS rep drops by for a visit…).
I have a feeling this ‘smartphone’ with a totally new, never-before-seen OS from MS will not be as big of a debacle as Zune, mainly because of those CIOs (and CTOs) so enamored with everything MS.
Then again, all they’ll be doing is migrating from WinMobile to this new device, thereby not doing any market share erosion for Apple.
Chief Inspector Clouseau: The Fune?
About time! Now we can rip it to shreds.
I’m sure that the ‘Zune Phone’ will be just as craptacular as all the other products MS makes.
It will simply be another blatant example of MS’s inability to produce anything of real, lasting value.
May Ballmer stay at the helm for as long as it takes.
Just one question… where is Zune Tang? I’d love to see his take on this one.
Time for Apple to buy Nvidia.
# Chris
ZuneTang can´t cope…
I like that Pedrag.
“Microsoft’s top selling product is… Vaseline”.
Zune Phone. I love it!!!
A phone you need to reboot every 5 mn and a fully loaded with superb Task manager!!
Smells already like a hit!
If this is true, it’s bad, really bad, for Apple. This may be the event that finally stirs MSFT shareholders into action. X-box, Zune, Vista, How much more cash can Ballmer burn on value destroying business ventures before someone does something? I think this may be the end of the line for old sweaty-armpits. Then, with him out of there, MSFT could once again become a force to be feared.
Of course, I’ll believe a MSFT phone when I see it. The raving of one Aussie mac fan boy does not prove anything is really coming from Redmond.
Funny I thought RIM owned the corporate phone market despite MS’s efforts over endless years.
Are they going to call it the ‘Phune’? Inspector Clousseau would buy one.
Microsoft really, really, really likes their partners. You are getting Zuned!
The Nvidia Tegra chip looks very good.
I doubt they are counting on the MS name to propel the product, it must have something going for it. Weren’t there reports and photos that showed a very iPhone like, multitouch (minus that name) Mobile Win 7? Perhaps they believe Mobile Win 7 will do what 6.x has failed to do.
