Boxee promises Apple TV patch soon

“Apple last night released an update for the Apple TV, introducing new features but breaking support for the incredibly popular Boxee software – but there will be a fix within 24-hours, a member of the development team has revealed,” Jonny Evans reports for Distorted-Loop.

“Swiftly developed in response to Apple’s new software, the new Boxee patch is already undergoing testing, and the Boxee crew will let people know as and when the new version of the software – which should work correctly with the updated model of Apple set-top box – is available. We hope to be able to let you know here,” Evans reports.

“Meanwhile, the team is warning Boxee users not to upgrade their Apple TV if they want to continue using the software, which adds a host of handy features to what your Apple TV is capable of,” Evans reports.

“Among other handy features, Boxee lets Apple TV users access content from web services outside of the Apple empire, these include Hulu, CBS (online), Comedy Central, Last.fm, and flickr,” Evans reports.

  1. When they do ( not if) open an App store for Apple TV they are going to crush gaming. Yes they will still sell a shit ton of consoles , but Apple will kill on hardware sales (Apple TV, controlers, new remotes) and software ( App store). Good night world Apple is on pace to crush everything.

  2. @Jersey_Trader,

That would be awesome, except for the fact that you have to use cable cards with Tivo, and most Cable Co’s are switching to SDV, which renders the cable cards useless for most HD stations. I am dumping my DH Tivo for Dish Network. I don’t want to, but the cable co DVRs are horrific.

  3. How the hell can an unsupported application, a hack, be “wildly popular”. I have a funny feeling they’re stretching the definition a bit, and that only a tiny minority of Apple TV owners use this thing, even if said tiny minority are wildly happy with it.

For me, no thanks. I don’t shell out three figures for an appliance just to f*** around with it. If I want that kind of functionality, I’ll purchase something that supports it.
