Apple delaying Google voice search app for iPhone and iPod touch?

“Google today unleashed its improved [Google Mobile App for Apple iPhone and iPod touch] to the press and supposedly to Apple. But it hasn’t yet hit the Apple store,” Seth Weintraub reports for Computerworld. “What gives?”

“The application was due [as soon as Friday],” Weintraub reports. “However, as I check my watch, it is now Saturday, and I still can’t download this app. Is something up with Apple not wanting its users to have this functionality? Will Apple block iPhone users from this for some reason? Perhaps Apple has a competing technology waiting in the wings?”

MacDailyNews Take: Perhaps Seth can’t comprehend the meaning of “as soon as?”

Weintraub continues, “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, it has only been 24 hours. It will probably hit the store any second now. One thing is for certain, time really doesn’t fly when you are hitting refresh on the app store waiting for the coolest app yet.”

MacDailyNews Take: This is quite the Seinfeldian article, but at least it gives us an excuse to post the video below.

Google shows off Google Mobile App:

MacDailyNews Note: As of 10:32am ET, in Apple’s App Store, the free “Google Mobile App” (iTunes App Store link) is currently still version 0.1.414, released August 28, 2008.

  1. It’ll bomb, because the Storm is clickable. Just sayin.

Completely off topic, yet satisfying and cogent, no? ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”tongue rolleye” style=”border:0;” />

  2. This is an extremely cool app. I sure hope Apple is not blocking it in one of their “we are doing the same thing” anti-competitive moves. This needs to be out on the iPhone before it is out on other phones.

  3. Snapper: Are you sure its not the “old” version (0.1.414)? Google Mobile app has been available for a while. What they are talking about here is an update to that app giving it voice recognition.

  4. There’s more hubbub. The video is said to have disappeared from youtube and google’s pulled mention of it from their site (supposedly).

Apple’s panties are in some sort of bunch it seems.

  5. I would like to officially nominate “R” as a rabble rouser. For stirring the pot, you will be forbidden from using the ‘coolsmile’ and ‘wow’ Emoticons until you crazy kids turn that music down!
