Apple’s new 24-inch LED Cinema Display now shipping

Apple LED Cinema Display - Apple Store (U.S.)Apple’s new 24-inch LED Cinema Display is now shipping from the U.S. Apple Store which now lists the display as shipping within “7-10 business days,” where before it said “coming soon” — although there is still no “buy” link for the product on Apple’s Web site currently.

With the Apple LED Cinema Display (US$899), you can turn your new MacBook into a desktop in three easy connections. The universal MagSafe connector charges your notebook. A new Mini DisplayPort connector makes attaching an external display even easier and faster than before. And a USB connector provides access to three USB 2.0 ports. There’s also a built-in iSight camera, microphone, and speaker system that provide a true desktop experience. Made of aluminum and glass, the LED Cinema Display is the perfect companion for the new MacBook family.

Made for the new MacBook family. The LED Cinema Display is the first display designed specifically for the MacBook. Three easy connections allow you to extend your desktop, charge your MacBook and access a world of USB peripherals.

Connect via Mini DisplayPort. The LED Cinema Display attaches to your new MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air using the new industry-standard Mini DisplayPort connector. Other display connectors have you lining up pins or fumbling with screws. But the Mini DisplayPort connector is easy in, easy out.

Extend your desktop. Connect your new MacBook to the LED Cinema Display, and it’s like upgrading your screen to first class. The 24-inch LED-backlit widescreen display adds 1920 by 1200 pixels to your workspace, giving your work more room to impress. And its glossy finish makes graphics, photos, and video appear in rich colors and deep blacks.

The LED advantage. LEDs are solid-state light sources that are an ideal complement to digital LCDs. They light up very quickly, which means you experience full screen brightness the moment you connect your LED Cinema Display to your new MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air. And LEDs are completely mercury-free.

MagSafe connector. The LED Cinema Display is the perfect companion for your new MacBook, because it includes a convenient universal MagSafe connector that powers and charges your MacBook when you’re back at your home, office, or dorm. You can leave your MacBook power adapter right in your bag, ready to hit the road.

Built-in conveniences. With a built-in iSight camera, microphone, speaker system, and USB hub, the LED Cinema Display keeps your desktop clutter-free. Have video conferences with your MacBook closed. Listen to music without headphones. And leave your USB peripherals connected to the display for quick get-up-and-go productivity.

Green design. The LED Cinema Display, like the latest-generation iPod, iPhone, and Mac computers, features mercury-free LED backlight technology and arsenic-free glass. The display is also free of BFRs and PVCs in all internal cables and components. In addition, the glass and aluminum construction make the display highly recyclable, so its raw materials can be used in other types of products. It receives a Gold rating from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT).

  1. so technically not shipping just stating when they will ship. The headline is misleading. Shame on MDN for not providing an accurate headline.

    Should read
Apple’s new 24-inch LED Cinema Display now shipping in 7-10 days
    or even
Apple’s new 24-inch LED Cinema Display now shipping but you can’t purchase it yet.
    or even
Apple’s new 24-inch LED Cinema Display now shipping (real soon)

Cool, I would be glad for Apple to ship me the Cinema Display without having to purchase it first.

  3. “Apple Store which now lists the display as shipping within “7-10 business days,” where before it said “coming soon” — although there is still no “buy” link for the product on Apple’s Web site currently.”

So, how exactly is this “shipping” if you can’t buy it yet and it’s not shipping for 7-10 days?

  4. Meanwhile the Dell 2408wfp is 25% off and selling for $517.

  5. @Jeff

Does the Dell have the built-in camera, microphone, and speakers? Does it include a MagSafe power adapter to charge your Mac laptop?

This monitor is more than just a plain flat panel display. It’s like a display and docking station in one unit.

  6. @mikej

Good point. Electrical outlets are very rare. I’m always having trouble charging my laptop because I only have one outlet in my house.

Don’t forget to buy your wireless keyboard and mouse to use with your MacBook. Otherwise, it would seem pretty foolish to buy this display if your MacBook lid is going to be open so you can type on it.

  7. Naw, screw the Dell

For a mere $200-ish more than the cost of an Apple 24″ Display alone

Got, a few months ago, Re-Furb 2.x GHz Intel iMac inside of that Display

    And, it ain’t a Glossy

    ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”rolleyes” style=”border:0;” />

  8. Yes, it’s GLOSSSSSSSSSSSSSY. Nice looking, but glossy. UGH.

    I bought a 26″ ViewSonic VP2650wb (catchy name, eh?).
Matte screen. Black matte enclosure. The monitor rotates, too!
3ms refresh rate vs. 14ms for the Apple!!!!

Sorry Apple, no matte, NO SALE.

  9. mikej…

Certainly those are valid points. The built-in MagSafe thingie is a great feature. I could care less about speakers (they won’t beat my LINN speakers with Creek amp) or a camera (my MBP has one already).

But, you see, I do VectorWorks CAD and 3D. Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. Glossy simply doesn’t work for my WORK. Try architectural 3D modeling with a glossy screen for an extended period and I’ll buy a pencil from you on the street corner, Mr. Blind Man.

    Also,
    4000:1 contrast ratio
    110% NTSC color saturation
    Brightness 400 cd/m2
    DVI and VGA ports!

BTW: I got my ViewSonic for $565 through Amazon.

  10. mikej…

What would staring at a DELL logog do first?

    A. Make you blind.
    B. Drive you insane.
    C. Turn you into an axe murderer.
    D. Smash it into at least a million pieces.
    E. All of the above.

    I vote E.

  11. Truth in advertising. I am incensed (and I think my intelligence is being insulted) by these so called LED displays. Folks, they are NOT LED displays! They are LCD displays with LED backlights! Calling them LED displays is not true (or maybe half true). I know there are OLED displays (organic LED displays) where the OLED device actually produces light, thus they need no backlight. I have not seen or heard of a true LED display, except for those huge discrete LED displays you see at sports events or furniture stores. I contend that, if you can make an OLED display, you can make an LED display (i.e. a display that produces light and therefore needs no backlight). That would be green indeed. Maybe there are manufacturing dificulties or something, but it would be a great thing. I’m still waiting to see one.
