  1. @coolfactor, slowness, <30fps is a fail, even if it passes all the tests. Every one of the 100 tests is supposed to take less than 100ms.

On my 6 year old 1Ghz TiPB with only one stick of ram (512MB) working, I get:
    Failed 0 tests.
Test 26 passed, but took 107ms (less than 30fps)
Test 65 passed, but took 35ms (less than 30fps)
    Total elapsed time: 3.48s

So, your config is either older than mine, or you have some issues.

  2. Ah, the power of anonymity and the internet.

    @MizuInOz

I have Safari 3.2 running right now on OS 10.5.5, iMac 24″ 3.06GHz DuoCore 4Gb ram . . . and not one single crash or hiccup in three hours of INTENSIVE web-browsing and application downloading.

So . . . oh arrogant one . . . which of our experiences is to be believed tonight? Yours? Mine? What makes YOUR opinion and knowledge of all things Apple and Macintosh so superior to mine and ours?

What do we know of the state of your machine(s)? Are we to take you at your word that you know what you’re doing and maintain your computing environment properly? What if, for instance, you’re trying to use Safari Tiger on Leopard machines? (I don’t know if that’s actually possible, but what if it IS?)

Why don’t you grow up, little man, and ask for help if you need it. First, why not ask on this forum if EVERYONE is experiencing the same–or nearly the same–problems you are? Why so quick to condemn?

Relax, Max, and try to get a grip on the world. Not EVERYTHING is trying to kill you!

  3. From the Apple discussion board on Safari just now:

“Safari 3.2 was crashing when I would do an Open in Tabs.

I removed the Input Managers and that got it working again. I re-installed all of them but SIMBL and things seem to be working now.”

Who’s to say that something akin to this scenario is not what’s happening to those experiencing problems here? Anybody using “PithHelmet”? It, TOO, is not ready to work with Safari 3.2 apparently.

People/companies who write add-ons for Apple software who are not bonafide Apple developers are always behind the curve when new editions are released. ALWAYS. And it’s always Apple’s fault when their OLD, OUT-DATED extensions crash the running app, huh.

Humility, grasshopper, humility. It goes a long way.

  4. @ Randian, Silly Rabbit, et. al….

My intention here is not to whine… nor snap as someone who is trying to help.

    Your experience is your experience.

However, it is not the only one.

I have no extensions and I do not have SIMBL running or installed. I quit using all of that stuff long ago.

I have several Apple computers running in my home, offices and lab – i do not need to be an alpha tester. I cannot afford to have the downtime that inadequately designed updates/upgrades can cause. And yet, I am supposed to update immediately for security reasons. Hmmm.

I am not pissed at anyone on this website – period. Don’t know you well enough to be pissed at you. If you are feeling picked upon, then you need to look in a mirror about your own feelings of inadequacy. (and I do not like porridge). ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”raspberry” style=”border:0;” />

I am pissed at Apple. My comments were directed to Apple – not to any particular board member. If I offended anyone – I apologise.

What I find interesting is that I am not the only one having issues and yet, there is felt a need to castigate me. Is that because I am an Aussie?

    Cheers.

  5. Damn this Safari 3.2 update.
I’ve been crashing every time I try to open a new link in a new window with either the ‘apple’ key + click on link,
or when I try to reset Safari,
or when I right click on a link and click on “open in a new window.

    Damn.

Any way to get this stupid 3.2 update unloaded and off my MacBook Pro?
    Yes, I have 10.5.5 installed.

    Thanks for any help.

  6. Thanks TT…

Anyone who has read my comments here knows I do not attack fellow writers. And I only whinge (Aussies do not whine) ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” /> when I have a serious problem.

Castigation is usually easy when there is a high level of anonymity.

BTW – I have gone through ALL of my libraries (sys and user) and looked for any offending extensions, add-ons, SIMBL stuff – none. Still acting up.

WebKit is working great – just may stay with it. So friggen fast it is un-friggen-believeable. I am still trying to clean up the skid marks on the desk!

And I still get the crashes. Must be because the code arrives upside down here and it takes a few runs to get over the reverse coriolis effect! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

    Cheers, Mate …

And it is Friday here, so I will swill a schooner for ya!

  7. Well, I did the update on two Macs, one Intel with 10.5.5 and one PowerPC with 10.4.11. No problems at all. In fact, I don’t really notice any difference, since I did not have any problems with the previous version on either Mac.

Thanks Apple, for whatever it is that’s better or fixed under the hood, and for not adversely affecting people who were doing just fine before the update.

  8. OUCH!

It breaks both SafariStand and Concierge! Once I unistalled both plug-ins, it works, but Safari now feels like alien territory.

I LIVE with my zillion, easily accessible and manageable bookmarks via Concierge.

I even tried rerunning the 10.5.5 Combo update in the hope that it would restore Safari 3.1.2.

So, I’m guessing that SIMBL is the culprit. Let’s hope there’s a fix SOOOOOOOON. This is killing me.

  9. Crashed 4x within 2 minutes of installing. Ran disk permissions, rebooted, crashed the first time I ran it.

Then I remembered I had Pith Helmet installed. Which I installed because of the *annoying* popup word ads on this site (and the *reprehensible* tracking/cookies).

Removed Pith Helmet (just remove the plugin from /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/PlugIns and rebooted – all is well again.

  10. BTW, the green/red feature in Safari 3.2 that tells you when you might be at a phishing site is only enabled for those sites that have shelled out significant extra $$ to support that protocol.

Look at the pricing on Network Solutions for the Extended Validation certificate…$399 per year versus $139 for the regular one.

If a site doesn’t have an EV SSL cert, there is no red/green, just the old gray padlock there has always been.

  11. Ridiculous, Safari still doesn’t support tags when saving webpages. I don’t get why Apple need so long to understand that what sucks most today is organizing (and finding) bookmarks. Delicious’ tags is a lifesaver – as Apple just stumbles on with their prehistoric bookmarks.

  12. Suggestion for sudden quits, maybe try rebooting in Safe Boot? Dump those old nasty caches an possible corrupt font caches?

Reboot holding down the Shift key. (Be patient, it will take awhile to clean house). After it fully boots (successful attempt should say “Safe Boot” in red on Log In Screen). Restart as normal.

Might work, might not. But it’s good for your Mac to do that once in awhile anyway. I’ve had good luck with it curing a lot of odd things.
