Reminder: Apple to announce fiscal Q4 08 financial results today at 5pm ET

A reminder: Apple is scheduled to announce the results of the company’s fiscal fourth quarter (Q4 08) and to conduct a conference call to discuss the company’s results on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 2pm PT/5pm ET.

MacDailyNews will be covering the conference call via live notes later today. The live coverage will appear at the top of our home pages shortly before 5pm ET.

MacDailyNews Take: It’s all about the guidance. And, again, Apple should use the current turmoil on Wall Street as a convenient excuse to stop giving hard guidance and never resume the practice.

The link to the QuickTime stream of the conference call is here.

MacDailyNews Note: Analysts’ consensus estimates for Apple’s Q4 08 currently call for $1.11 EPS, on revenue of $8.05 billion, or 29.4% YOY sales growth. Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO, has provided guidance of “about $7.8 billion” and earnings per diluted share of “about $1.00.”

  1. The analysts should be using their time pointing out the companies that are really performing well, such as Apple. But I suspect they’ll use this opportunity to downgrade Apple. based on lower expectations due to the economic conditions.

  2. Apple posts record profits, sales of Macs and iPhones and respectable iPod numbers, with an aggressive forward guidance.

New rumors emerge of Steve Jobs health and his leaving Apple, the stock nose dives.

Somewhere in a cigar smoke filled room, “investors” clap and cheer and throw piles of money into the air like confetti.

  3. Tech just ain’t going away, and Apple is the healthiest of all of them by a wide margin.
Why do they have to always burden so much on the negative side when the positive side is so obvious? All their ducks are in a row.
Noone, including Apple, really knows what their numbers are going to be next time around, so Apple should tell guidance buyers to take a hike and leave them in the dark.

  4. This really, truly is the end of the world and all stock valuations will fall to $0!

Now is the time to panic. The well educated journalists have told us so.

To lighten you load, please send all shares to me and I’ll take care of them for you and send you a few pennies in return.

  5. I wonder if they will make any mention of this:

Has any further information on this come out?

    Mac Pro owners, listen up.

A french newspaper Liberation.fr has published a report (English translation) stating that Mac Pro owners run the risk of getting diseases as dangerous as leukemia (blood cancer) simply by using their computer. The newspaper was warned by a national agency scientist that the smell (already detected by many Mac Pro users on Apple forums) is actually toxic, composed of several toxins, including benzene.

  6. Thelonious Mac,
It’s all sensationalistic. That is the kind of journalism that O’Grady has stooped to since the whole Asteroid debacle (he got really bitter, nasty, and negative about everything it seems after that lawsuit). The French also like to report unfounded rumors as sensationalistic news. My guess – nothing will come of it. I do think there is a report from independent scientists in the U.S. saying that the parts per million are too low to cause anything and we are exposed to higher levels on a daily basis by stepping outside. Sorry, no link to it readily available from me.
