Apple slams Microsoft, Windows Vista again with another new ‘Get a Mac’ ad (with video)

Apple has launched another volley in its assault on Microsoft and Windows Vista with a new “Get a Mac” TV commercial that has begin airing on U.S television networks this evening.

In Apple’s new “Bakes Sale” ad, Windows PC explains that Microsoft’s marketing guys are spending all the money on advertising Vista instead of actually fixing Vista, so he’s holding a bake sale with rather pricey cupcakes.

  1. When these ads began I was not too impressed. But, man on man are they really getting to me! (And I guess a lot of other people too.) Now I can’t wait to see the next ones.

    Keep it up Apple.

PS. Take the poll about your favorite Get A Mac ad in the upper left corner.

  2. this one is great for the ‘take a bite’ and ‘now overpay me’ ending.

that’s the real MSFT tax. You think its cheap until you are too far in. Ballmer wants to suck you dry.

  3. @Arnold Ziffel – agree with you. This ad was okay but not as clever as the Bean Counter ad. Does Apple still run similar Mac and PC ads outside of the US? I remember seeing a couple of British ads but with different actors. If the ads are being run outside the US, what’s the local view of the ads?

    Peace.

  4. So good.

Humor is the very BEST form of advertising, and in this case, it smacks Micro$hit upside the head, which is a cool bonus.

The ads continue to cement the idea that there is only one computer that has a name – the Mac.

The rest are just ‘computers’, or PC’s, which is the same as PC or ‘politically correct’ which stands for uptight jerks with no common sense working for the Government, or getting phoney Arts grants for movies about Lesbian Penguins.

The perfect image for Ballmer and Gates.

  5. You know, the key to these ads has been the consistency of the theme. I think MS pulled the plug on the Gates/Seinfeld ads too soon. They might have pulled a following, even among begrudging Mac fans, had they let the gag mature.

  6. The sweetest part of these three most recent ads is there is no way Microsoft can duck or cover from them. No question they are true, nor any sensible argument about their truth. Their only choice is to either take their licking with a smile (bad enough) or try and make a fight out of it (and make it so much worse).

At least they “sort of” still have a choice. Well played by Apple. Quiet, conservative, stylish, and in excellent taste.

  7. “…The ads continue to cement the idea that there is only one computer that has a name – the Mac.”

    There is still The Thinkpad.

And i do not understand why every mac user is thinking : other hardware = pc = microsoft os.

  8. MegaMe:
“Is “marketing guy” code for Ballmer?”
Probably yes. Have a look at this excerpt from an interview with Steve:

“Jobs: So a different group of people start to move up. And who usually ends up running the show? The sales guy. John Akers at IBM is the consummate example. Then one day, the monopoly expires for whatever reason. But by then the best product people have left, or they’re no longer listened to. And so the company goes through this tumultuous time, and it either survives or it doesn’t.

Q: Is this common in the industry?
A: Look at Microsoft — who’s running Microsoft?

    Q: Steve Ballmer.
A: Right, the sales guy. Case closed.”

  9. Stop this madness! I hate this negative advertising. Say something positive – show how exposé works, spaces, right clicking – anything but this diatribe.

If I have a favourite it’s The Office posse one – you know “I don’t see a ring on this finger”!
