  1. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

Apple Certified Refurb is the only way to buy. I’ve bought 4 PowerBooks and my MacBook Pro this way and my iPod is a refurb, too. No issues and they’re really just like new. I use the extra money for RAM and other extras.

About ready to grab an Apple TV…

  2. These prices are pretty consistent with what they’ve been for a while. Nothing special here.

I would anticipate those MacBook prices will be coming down even lower after next week’s announcement on Tuesday.

And I concur that refurbs are a GREAT deal. I recommend them to people wholeheartedly. Maybe I’m lucky but I’ve had good luck with them and never been disappointed in over 15 refurb purchases.

  3. several refurb ipods here, but never a Mac yet, never had the one i needed when i needed it. i hope that changes….

though if the new notebooks are special i will have to wait a bit to get them at refurb!

and to continue the trend, never had an issue with them.

  4. But they don’t take the prices down even when there’s a price cut. Look at the TV prices – they still list the original price of the refurb units as 299, even though the current price point is 229. It gets even worse with the cinema displays.

  5. When last Apple introduced the new iMac, this “price drop” happened on the “refurbed” iMacs. The price of the refurb has to be lower than a new one. They have to clear out inventory some how. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”cool hmm” style=”border:0;” />

I’m going with $849 as the entry point for the upcoming laptops on Tuesday, and to hedge it like a smarmy analyst would, no higher than $899.

  6. In my family two refurbed e-macs running for basic internet, a refurbed 30gig iPod, a refurbed G5 iMac along with my my Macbook, Touch, and yes, even my old Lombard Powerbook is still running OS 9 and the old Photoshop. I refuse to pay Adobe their stiff price to upgrade. My revision A bondi blue iMac is in my mom’s attic running in perfect condition so I can sell it on Ebay in 20 years. Also in my mom’s attic is a PowerMac 7500, yes, still running!
I have never ran a virus program on any of those computers ever and have only had one hard drive die. That’s it!
Don’t tinker and you won’t have any problems.
Mac and AAPL is the way to go. I just paid off my minivan last week, thanks to AAPL

  7. Have not bought anything but for over ten years, and tell all potential switchers they are wasting their money doing anything but purchasing through the refurb program. Not only have I never had a problem, but on occasion you will find that you actually receive a machine with higher specs than you paid for, ram, removable media, hard drive and yes, once even a processor bump. Apple Refurbished is the Best!

  8. Greenleaf:

Computers kept in attics don’t fare well through the years. The lack of airconditioning (either extreme heat and humidity or extreme cold) are really hard on the internal parts and can make the plastic bits brittle.

If you really want to resell them as classics in 20 years, they should be in a closet somewhere.

… and to the subject matter at hand, refurbished is a good way to go unless you have an educational discount, which is nice.
