Orange suspends UK sales of BlackBerry Bold due to software quality issues

Orange has removed the Blackberry Bold from sale “due to quality issues,” Mobile Tech Addicts reports. “Well, today we received an anonymous tip off with a copy of the Orange internal statement explaining the decision to their staff. Seems like Blackberry have a few problems to iron out.”

Internal Orange Statement regarding BlackBerry Bold:

Following reports of software issues with the BlackBerry Bold handset across a variety of mobile operators, Orange has decided to act in the interest of its customers by suspending shipments of the device in the UK. We are currently awaiting feed back from RIM as to when an industry wide fix for these issues will be in place, and expect this suspension to be an interim measure. We apologise for any inconvenience this issue may cause you.

BlackBerry/RIM are doing everything they can to resolve this issue and will be completing full testing and validation to ensure future handsets do not have any quality issues. This may take a couple of weeks so it’s up to us to do what’s best for our customers.

  1. If this had happened to Apple, the fscking planet would have cracked in half from the unbridled hue and cry issued by RIM and Nokia supporters, huh? They would have NEVER let iPhone supporters EVER forget it . . . but will there be any massive press coverage over this FUBAR event?

Naw. It just doesn’t work that way.

  2. Well they aren’t sating what it is, but bear in mind that “acting in the interests of its customers” probably doesn’t mean what you think it means when said by a mobile operator. Picture Genghis Khan and his concern for the welfare of his neighbors to the west.

  3. Hmmm, so what are the issues? Any worse than the sporadic issues customers had with the iPhone? Or far worse? New product for RIM and sounds like they rushed it to market. Mistakes in this economy are really really bad. I like the world with RIM in it – a little competition isn’t a bad thing you know. Look at HD DVD vs. Blu Ray – prices went up or flattened for Blu Ray discs and players when HD DVD went off the market.

  4. Any Brits out there know what the issues are?

It’s kinda funny that we haven’t heard anything about this until this late in the game. Like Randian says above, if this was the iPhone it would be headline news all over the place for weeks.

I guess fame comes at a price.

  5. Has RIM got any experience on fixing industry wide fixes?

Do they equip Blackberries, Slackberries, Crackberries with an iPhone like functionality to enable updates & fixes or do you have to buy the next model in order to acquire new functionality?

Mr Ball Silly, can you now crawl from under the rock of ignorance & repeat the same statement you made when you were first asked about Apple inc. iPhone?

    Can you?

    Can you??
