Apple will be celebrating the Grand Openings of their latest Canadian retail stores, Apple Store Fairview in Toronto, Ontario and Apple Store Market Mall in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, September 27th at 10am local time.
To celebrate the Grand Openings, Apple is featuring a week of exciting events. In the stores, Apple will have a variety of unique and educational presentations, demonstrations and workshops — all free of charge. The first 1,000 people to visit the Apple Stores receive a free Apple Store T-shirt.

I wonder what this will do to Westworld in Crescent Heights…
I wonder when we will get an Apple store in Ottawa, a capital city of high income bilingual public servants from Quebec who speak rotten English and who mostly use Windows at work.
There’s also MyMacDealer in Calgary.
Westworld has nothing to worry about. They’ve been modeled after the US Apple stores for a long time. They will do even better with all the hype.
MyMacDealer is toast. They couldn’t even compete with Westworld.
Calgary?? I could see Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, but Calgary? Wow. Congrats to all the Calgarians on being so fortunate. One more thing to beat those Edmontonians over the head with.
As for other Mac dealers in Calgary … My sister had problems with her G5 iMac and the Mac dealers in Calgary seemed to be bereft of technical expertise or knowledge of how to file warranty claims with Apple. Finally, after I advised her not to use their services, Apple solved her problem over the phone and sent her a new Intel iMac as a replacement. Maybe Apple sees a need for a real Mac store there.

Westworld and Mymac are grungy dingy orifices making money off Apple’s efforts, not their own..Westworld and MyMac haven’t even tried to push market Apple products.It has all been on Apple’s efforts. If Apple has a poor sales award…I would call it the Ballmer and give to both Calgary stores. Your Frustration, Our fault would be an excellent tagline for those stores. London Drugs does a better job…yecch! Apple finally put an employee in Best Buy.. that was a nightmare before.

@al – Westworld sucks for service, for sales and for product information and offerings…other than that they are almost as good as … i dunno …Dell? But I would agree….they rate above MyMac.

While I’m not sure I agree with hortensethecow’s stereotyping of us Ottawans, I’m pretty sure we are easily the largest city in Canada without an official Apple Store. I mean come on, Toronto has like five now?
At least Carbon Computing isn’t too bad here; beats the hell out of the arrogant, hole-in-the-wall “Mac Group”…and one always does have the 30-day (14 for computers) full refund policy at Best Buy :->

I used to work for a dealer a few years ago. I left when Apple kept dropping the margin available to dealers. Couldn’t make a good enough living at 6-8% points of margin. Of course Apple’s margins are 35%+ and yes, they do R&D;but dealers need to pay staff, rent, phones and the like. The replies above are the usual comments from those who think dealers should do handstands for whiny customers while dealing with all the Apple restrictions and crap imposed upon dealers (but not to Apple’s own stores). These are the clients that most dealers WANT to send to the Apple store and their revolving roster of part time staff.

If one goes to the Apple Canada website, and clicks on the job opportunities, look at some of the openings for Ontario… then click on “apply” you come up with a list of locations in Ontario.. look closely at the postal codes, and while the Sherway Gardens has an Apple Store, the postal code when mapped on Google, is located on Albert Street… in Ottawa.
As far as I am concerned, Apple can’t get to Ottawa soon enough! The existing Apple resellers are terrible and repair services are pure crap.

I’m not a big fan of Westworld’s. They tried to hose me for $50 on what was a warranty issue. I won’t go there again (especially now).
I had bad experiences at both Westworld and MyMacDealer, glad there will finally be a true Apple store in Calgary.
Westworld wanted to charge me over 3 times the price of a RAM upgrade on my iMac and gave some BS about how they “guarantee” their ram…online order from Crucial was to my door next day. Westworld loses a customer.
MyMacDealer…went in numerous times to check out a Mac first hand…never ONCE did I get anyone to ask if I needed help. MyMacDealer loses a customer.
Bought my iMac from the online store, bought my RAM direct from Crucial, extra happy with both purchases. Will give the Market Mall store a shot maybe even for the opening and say hi to all the former Vistek employees there

Apple store in Fairview? Sweet. I drive by that mall every day on the highway – now a reason to stop. I wonder when the refurbished one in the Eaton Centre will fully reopen?

Hmm, interesting! Why would they list an opening for a current store (Sherway Gardens) but list it as in “Ontario” (as opposed to “Toronto”) with an Ottawa postal code??

I just google mapped that postal code and it came up in Toronto. Maybe they noticed the mistake and changed it. Nonetheless, being from Ottawa but now living in Calgary, I most definitely would love to see Apple come to the Nations Capital. It’s long overdue and Ottawa deserves one. Hopefully Apple will put one there one of these days!!
