Snow Patrol and Apple to deliver interactive album app for iPhone and iPod touch

“Snow Patrol will become the first artists to deliver an interactive album application for the Apple iPhone and iPod touch, ahead of the release of their fifth studio album next month,” Stuart Clarke reports for Music Week.

“The application, which will be downloadable online, will enable fans to access a raft of extra content including artwork, behind-the-scenes images and lyrics via the touch screen of their handsets, marking the first time a music artist has made use of the iPhone’s extra capabilities,” Clarke reports.

“Entitled A Hundred Million Suns, the new album is Snow Patrol’s third for Fiction/Polydor, which has sold 3.7m copies of the band’s past two studio albums in the UK alone,” Clarke reports.

  1. don’t know the band, but love the idea. hope it sells in the billions and the idea catches on like wildfire.

….that or they could try limiting the popular “singles” to album only sales! buahahahahahaha!

  2. Imagine that? A bigger recording company thinks that selling over one million copies of an album justifies them removing singles from iTunes.

A smaller innovative recording company that has sold over three million copies of an album are seeking to exploit the full functionality of the iPhone & iTunes to further increase sales and expand the mindshare of their client by engaging even more with iTunes!!!!?

Reminds me of Cingular an unknown entity compared to Vodafone/Verizon turning iPhone 1 down………

You would think that such highly paid greedy fat bastards would have learnt their lesson sooner!

I would just love to feed them Camel’s Milk via a tube through their noses!!!!

  3. App-Albums – interesting idea. Not that keen on the band but thats not the point. Id like to see how this works, you wouldnt want the music to be ONLY available on your iPhone after-all, youd want to be able to sync the music to any of your devices.
Also, I wonder how distributing an album as an app compares to selling it as music, from a profit/cost point-of-view. Interesting indeed. Lets say I write a tune, how hard is it to get iTunes to sell it for me and how much do they take ? And would getting a Tune-app approved for sale in the store be any easier/profitable ?

  4. Welcome to the Future (this week)!

A “plain” music file will seem as flat as a printed page soon.

All music will soon contain full multi-media embeds.

Photos, Lyrics. games you name it…

Apple is “kicking it up a notch” again!

  5. Yes, Love Snow Patrol..

If you are interested in any Snow Patrol song, buy “Run.” The 30 second sample does not do it justice.. Spend the 99 cents and be blown away, it is an amazingly powerful and emotional song…

    Do it..
