Streaming Networks today announced enhancements to iRecord Pro, including the support for direct recording to the iPhone 3G and iPod touch without the need of a computer. The iRecord Pro now supports full D1, H.264 video encoding, lossless audio compression, timed recording, live streaming, direct recording to Mac or Windows PC hard disks and transcoding of existing digital contents to portable media player formats.
iRecord Pro connects via standard audio/video (AV) connectors to any TV, set-top-box, digital video recorder, camcorder, VCR, DVD player, cassette & LP player, or almost any similar AV source. Press a button and iRecord Pro records AV content directly onto your Apple iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod touch, iPod classic, iPod nano and other PMPs, USB flash drive, USB hard disk, Mac or Windows PC.

iRecord Pro supports full resolution D1 (720×480) video encoding. The timer feature of iRecord Pro enables recording for predefined durations. You can connect it to a Mac or Windows PC to record A/V content directly to a computer hard disk. The user can simultaneously watch/listen to what is being recorded on the same PC/Mac and/or stream the content to another machine for viewing. iRecord Pro can also transcode MPEG2 content to H.264, a popular PMP video format. WAV & FLAC lossless audio are available via recording by iRecord Pro. It uses NXP Semiconductors’ VLIW media processor.

Ah, so it’s not an application that allows you to capture video using the iPhone’s camera.
Ah well, still cool, but I’ll have to see how much freedom it affords. Hardware devices like the Turbo.264 are always limiting… that’s why they’re cheap. This isn’t cheap, though, so there may be hope.
Wow, I wonder if the iRecord Lite version will be a $1.
Ridiculously expen$ive IMO. I’ll bet they’d sell more than 15x more at 1/15th the price.
