Apple iPhone launches new Internet age

“A quarter of a century ago, Apple sparked a personal computing revolution with the Macintosh 128K,” Marie Boran reports for Independent.ie.

“In the intervening years, the internet as we know it has been firmly shackled to the personal computer, mildly interrupted by mobile operators with their walled-garden approach to getting connected,” Boran reports.

“It is 2008 and the latest iPhone 3G has unleashed the full promise of the mobile internet, breaking our chains to the desktop and smashing through the walled-gardens of prescribed internet,” Boran reports.

Boran reports, “Mobile web is now a real and viable opportunity. We are witnessing the birth of a new internet age.”

“‘It’s about having a touchscreen and having ultra-responsivity. When you see the touch interaction working on an iPhone you realise it is a generation ahead of all these other devices,’ says Conor O’Neill, CEO of technology consultancy firm Argolon and editor of Web2Ireland.org,” Boran reports.

  1. Some of my coworkers got the new Dare because they don’t like ATT.

I can accept that. ATT isn’t that great here in the boondocks.

But listening to them talk about how cool the touch interface is and good enough and close enough to an iPhone is driving me crazy.

    They just don’t get it.

  2. Cramer made an idiot of himself last night pumping nothing but the RIMM Blackberry Bold, saying it was the new babe magnet instead of the iPhone. He also kinda forgot about the App Store. He said sell AAPL and buy RIMM based upon the Bold. This guy truly does not do his homework…I live to see him eat his words…he is clueless…he was also wrong on the market share for both Apple and Rimm. He couldn’t shut up about RIMM for some reason based upon current vaporware…must have pocketed some under the table promotion change. He also called the guy who can’t quit writing about Steve Jobs health his buddy. That says it all…what a dork!
It’s a shame people listen to this guy.

  3. You guys can bitch and moan about Flash all you want to. It’s still all over the place, you can’t do dick without it except view news sites, blogs and forums.

The iClone that comes up with full Flash will have a tremendous advantage over its predecessors.

  4. I can’t wait until iPhone OS X 2.0.1 that will hopefully fix the crashes, forced restarts and forced restores that I’ve had to do 4 times, and I’ve only had the iPhone for 12 days.

Pissed off, but optimistic Apple will fix it.

@R2, you’re wrong on this one. There are now between 7 to 8 million iPhones out there but studies show that they represent 75% of all mobile web visits. Seventy-five percent. Apple is not going to tie itself to a proprietary standard like Flash that it doesn’t control. With iPhones dominating the web traffic, the web is going to bend to Apple and eliminate Flash from their mobile Web sites. Flash is a goner.

    Ya think so!

These “analysts” just need to come to MDN and read our posts. It seems like we post this stuff weeks before they do. They should be paying us a consulting fee for this stuff.

    They just don’t get it.

  7. Having red the full article, I do not agree with the latter part. If I do not wish my whereabouts to be known, then I should have that choice.

If my mobile whatever is constantly relaying information to me & then back to others, can I have an option to switch it off please? I would hate to be found in the arms of my loved one wearing only my birthday suit by my other loved one!!!!! for example, & I imagine that would apply to my loved one too…all of them!!!!!!! Ha! ha! haaaaaa!!!

Anyway, you get the idea? There are times when we all need some time to ourselves.

  8. By their nature cell phones constantly report location. That is how the network knows through which cell tower to route your calls. Putting your iPhone in in airplane mode should give you privacy.

  9. Somebody listens to Cramer…he’s one of the 8 on Direct TV’s News Mix channel and RIMM’s stock is up today. Gas bag, exactly, but he shouldn’t have a TV show unless he can do simple homework. Anyone can see the market share growth Apple has made in one year, while RIMM’s sits still. The Bold is not out yet, and I seriously doubt it can match spec for spec of the iPhone. Cramer is wishing out loud or setting RIMM up to bomb…there is no way
RIMM shareholders can accept less than the new iPhone in mass features, convenience, and a REAL browser. Does anyone hear anything that the Blackberry does NOT have 3g yet? Not a chance! Also, Cramer doesn’t realize that over half the countries committed to the iPhone haven’t even been released yet…there is statistically NO chance yet to get any accurate numbers on iPhone sales until January or so. Buy AAPL, not RIMM. Cramer is a dork!

  10. @Crabapple,
If you don’t want to be discovered doing something that would cause you and others pain and suffering…. just don’t do it.

Of course, unless it’s the kind that gets strapped on your ankle, you can always turn off your tracking device.

You might also ask them if they think a guy in a dress and high heels is good enough and close enough to being a woman.
