“Business PC buyers are still overwhelmingly opting for XP, computer giant HP has revealed,” Dan Warne reports for APC Magazine.
“HP’s revelation, made at the launch of a new range of business notebooks, flies in the face of Microsoft’s persistent PR claims that Vista has sold tens of millions of copies — and is selling at a faster rate than XP ever did,” Warne reports.
“However, HP explained how Microsoft is coming up with these ‘Vista’ sales figures,” Warne reports.
“‘From the 30th of June, we have no longer been able to ship a PC with a XP licence,’ said Jane Bradburn, Market Development Manager, Commercial Notebooks for HP Australia,” Warne reports. “‘However, what we have been able to do with Microsoft is ship PCs with a Vista Business licence but with XP pre-loaded. That is still the majority of business computers we are selling today.'”
Warne reports, “So, in other words, Microsoft counts a sale for Vista, even though the computer manufacturer has really sold XP.”

MacDailyNews Take: Counting XP PC sales as “Vista,” $500 million rigged ad campaigns — It seems that the Microsoft slime buckets will resort to just about anything to “fix” their Vista debacle; anything, except what they should be doing, of course: trashing the whole bloated mess and starting from scratch with a clean slate. Oh, but then, whose tech would they buy for a song, or borrow, or steal this time?
The last time I checked, this was called fraud. Aren’t they lying to their stock holders and isn’t MS breaking some laws? This needs to be investigated.
If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS.
MS is not going to be investigated again.We have gotten past that, Thanks Clinton. People are going to see through it though. IT people are on top of this kind of news.
Microsoft breaking laws?
Never happen.
The last thing we want M$ to do is start from scratch. If their code baseline is crap then they will continue the downward spiral into the toilet. M$ did buy a company that should send shivers and that is Novel. Recall tat Novel owns Suse Linux – if M$ scrapped windows and turned to Linux which is a possibility they would leverage allot of excellent code.
Recall apple did the same with BSD. So its not beyond possibility and as we all know they use apple as springboard for new ideas…
@t — What are you talking about? MS did not buy Novell. They did some patent cross-licensing and made a number of collaboration and interoperability agreements.

I have over 20 years experience in IT, and though I semi-retired a couple years ago, the economies slowdown has forced me to pursue more IT centric work lately. I have actually received a few calls from recruiters seeking IT people with my high qualifications and at least 2 years of Mac experience (I have over 3 with OS X, as I do no count my experience with Macs in the late ’80s through the mid ’90s anymore at all). Unfortunately, none of these opportunities were sufficient to make me move, nor located near me here in Atlanta. Just as well anyhow, it’s looking like we’re moving to Manhattan in a couple months anyhow.
I didn’t know Vista was in fact XP in disguise.
If that article is correct, it sounds like misleading information is being given to MSFT shareholders.
I like that.
“If you can’t dazzle them with Apple brilliance, baffle them with MS BS.”
Just a thought. LOL

Can’t wait to see what the sales figures are on Mojave are. I’m sure MS will count those as Vista sales too . . .
What?? Mojave is Vista?? AWW for Christ sake, here i thought i was avoiding that Vista mess . . . Wait I bought Mojave Business School Chair Throwing Edition, is that still considered a Vista sale??
@MacsoftwareList
no! more like thanks GW
Smells like Microsoft is cooking the books and defrauding investors in the real worth of Vista, the company, it’s new advert spending spree and the future position of the company.
An Enron style approach is need get to the bottom of Microsoft’s book cooking.
@oh no my shorts:
Bill Gates had this to say “We are very excited at the new direction of Windows Vista. With help from Novell and IBM we have leveraged the Linux kernel and have built our GUI as a Window Manager on top of X.org. This brings the friendliness and usability model of our Windows operating system and married it to the stability and rock solid security of Linux.”

@oh no my shorts…
only kidding ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” /> – i still thinks its a possibility
I wonder if there is a hard copy of both operating systems.
If there is no XP license does that mean there isn’t a registration key number? Could be big trouble if you have to reformat. I’d like more details.
If true, MS should be prepared for the class action shareholder suits that will result. This will be easy money for the vulture class action lawyers.
AN INVESTOR CASE AGAINST BALLMER?
Surely, surely, these facts could not have been known by Steve Ballmer when he addressed investors last Thursday?
If he did, and he told barefaced lies, he should be sued to kingdom come.
Ooops, repeated your point! Too quick to send! Macaday
It was right after Clinton left office and the Bush Administration took over the DOJ that investigations into Microsoft were dropped.
Bottom line…
MS did sale tens of millions of copies of Vista.
Microsoft should just rename XP … to Vista! That’s the only way to justify the development dollars lost down the drain. Change a word, pretend everything is all right, and move on to the next thing. Eventually renaming that Vista too.
M$ shareholders don’t need to know about this, they only have to know about Steve Jobs health.
This is a well known and almost official thing. Everybody knows that XP’s are sold as Vista since the begenning. Why does this come up again now? Maybe just to shut M$’s mouth with their new lying “experience”?!
@Eric
Good for you. What’s your point?
