Night Productions releases free Pref Setter 2.0 for Mac OS X

Night Productions has released Pref Setter 2.0. Pref Setter is a utility for editing property list files, geared towards viewing and editing Mac OS X’s preference files.

Pref Setter’s intuitive and easy-to-use interface streamlines the user’s experience and lets them get right to editing.

Version 2.0 adds support for authentication, the ability to launch or quit applications directly, a new hex editor for editing data values, significantly updates the appearance, fixes bugs, and more. All users are encouraged to update.

Features include:
• Easy access to all of your preference files.
• Fast and simple searching.
• Comprehensive drag and drop support.
• Ability to import “defaults write…” strings directly without needing a trip to the terminal.

Pref Setter is freeware, though donations are welcome. Minimum Requirements: Mac OS X 10.3.9

  1. seems helpful for working with modifying kexts – for example, if you have a mac that doesn’t have wifi (a first-gen mac mini or power mac g5) and you have a third-party wifi device (like the belkin usb dongle), you would need to modify the info.plist file inside the realtek wifi kext – it looks like this would simplify that a little bit. cool stuff. but for average mac users whose machines “just work” it doesn’t mean anything. =)

    u can edit plists with any text editor.

    they are XML files.

    property editor is almost identical to this app.

    it does not offer any explanation, better avoid this app, if u want to tweak your mac use apps like TinkerTool etc…

    its a nice interface for working with plists.

    cool product but maybe 1% of the mac community will even understand what it does and why.

    Here’s a hint:
    use this to open your dock plist, add a new key, set the class to string, and set the value to start and relaunch your dock.
