Efiko Software has announced that iPhoneRingToneMaker for the Mac OS X Leopard (and Tiger) is now available.
iPhoneRingToneMaker works with the iPhone 2.0 and iTune 7.7 updates. The app now sends your created ringtones to your iTunes Ringtones Playlist as opposed to directly to your iPhone to ensure that your ringtones will work in future iTunes and iPhone updates.
iPhoneRingToneMaker retails for US$7.50.

Why would anyone buy this when GarageBand does it for free?
Wealthy Industrialite…
How many gigabytes of disk space does Garageband take? I think it’s about 3 or 4 GB if you install everything. It was one of the first things I dumped from my machine.
This thing is a 10MB download and for $7.50, not bad deal for a one-trick pony.
When I get my iPhone, I’ll certainly check this out.
ok, yes garage band is large, but are you really that strapped for space?
i am not criticizing, i am just shocked if you are! what do you people save on your drives? is your pR0n collection really that big?!? ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
MDN.
Where did the big thread go from last night?
Cant you just make a ring tone from an mp3, edited with quicktime or cacophony, audacity etc… Why pay for ring tones?
I use nakko.com to make ringtones free, easily, and quickly. You can also download those that have been created by other people. Everyone with an iPhone should check it out. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
Wow, just use amadeus or audacity to save a file as a . M4a file then in the finder change it to .m4r and drag to iTunes. That’s hardly $7.50 worth!
@shen.
One word answer…
Yes. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
@ CandTsmac
The Vista anti-virus ad discussion had nothing to do with iPhoneRingToneMaker, so that’s probably the main reason those comments ain’t here anymore. That, and the nameless MDN editors probably wanted to save some face.
@ John and others
Consider my situation: My wife and I just purchased two iPhones and we have GarageBand 1.1. I guess you need GarageBand 4.1.1 or later so we’d have to buy the new GarageBand to take advantage of that ring tone feature. So I tried John’s advice; Audacity (free) didn’t open my WAV or MP3 files correctly (chopped off the beginning half-second or so) but Amadeus (shareware) did work in creating my .m4r file. But Amadaus, being shareware, has a $30.00 price tag that appears to be enforced by way of 15 day trial.
I haven’t tried the nakko.com thing (not really interested in creating yet another account just for ring tone creation), but free is good.
Anyway, thanks for the tips; it got me my Flight of the Conchords theme song ring tone done, but $7.50 isn’t an outrageous fee for this kind of thing if you are into ring tones.
the fact that you even need this software is ridiculous. you should just be able to make whatever sound file you want be the ringtone, end of story.

Well, when you consider that it’s 3 to 4 GB of high quality sound material, all of which could be used as ringtones, it does make the purchase of iToner seem a little silly.
mike, you CAN make whatever sound you want and just drop it onto iTunes; remember I just did it yesterday on my iPhone (also made another ring tone for my wife).
But the advanced sound editing tools that you use to create the shorter clips and saving them are a different matter. If you can find a free solution that does this, great. But you can’t expect everything to be free.
