“After a quick download and painless upgrade process, I downloaded a few free apps. iPhone applications are synced just like any music or videos being transferred to the device.
One annoyance is the App Store continues to list apps that are already installed as if they haven’t been downloaded, making it difficult to discover more obscure apps.This is unlikely to change, however, as the iTunes Store has behaved this way with music and movies since its inception,” Nahorniak reports. “Of course, the current top 25 apps listed are all games. Who didn’t see that coming?”
“The best iPhone app I’ve seen so far is Apple Remote (by Apple). It connects to your iTunes-enabled computer, or Apple TV, and allows you to manipulate its controls wirelessly. The application even downloads the album art from the host machine and displays it on the iPhone’s screen. Button presses instantaneously affect the host with no lag. Very impressive to say the least,” Nahorniak reports.

MacDailyNews Note: Apple’s Remote works very well indeed. iPhone users are prompted to “Choose a Library” and given a four-digit passcode. Then to control iTunes, simply open iTunes, select your remote from the devices list and enter the passcode. Boom! It just works. To control Apple TV, add another library on your iPhone, get another four-digit passcode, go to your Apple TV and choose “Remotes” from the “General” menu in “Settings” and enter the passcode. Again, Boom! It just works. Of note: Remote simply presents and lets you control what’s currently on your Apple TV. You can search via iPhone’s keyboard. These are the categories currently available: Audiobooks, Composers, Genres, Movies, Music Videos, Podcasts, Songs, TV Shows. @Macintosh: I have it and yes it does allow you to use your iphone to search your AppleTV’s music, movie and tv show libraries. It doesn’t see any of my podcasts for some reason though.

Apple TV remote, go to podcasts, youtube, movies…. then go to search.
iPhone remote screen will bring up a search field for those parts of the menu…. we are so close to getting rid of the little whitey…. come on Apple, finish it up…… it is so god damn cool.
You have to be on the same wifi network to control your appletv with your iphone. you can do it from the driveway, but not much further.
Can you be more specific? When I fire up Remote on my iphone and pull up my AppleTV, there is Audiobooks, Composers, Genres, Movies, Music Videos, Podcasts, Songs and TV Shows. There is no Youtube entry. Also, when I go to Podcasts, it says there aren’t any, but I have downloaded plenty onto my AppleTV and they are in “My Podcasts” when I use the regular white AppleTV remote.
what about remote.app for DVD player? I know you brats with IR thumb your nose but some of us still have G4’s in our 17.

You have to update your AppleTV’s software to the just-released 2.1 in order to use Remote with your AppleTV. (You didn’t say whether you were trying to use it with AppleTV or with your Mac.)
To update your AppleTV’s software, on the AppleTV go to Settings -> General -> Update Software

Forgive me if I’m exhausting the obvious, but are you sure your phone is on the same wifi network that your Mac is on? If your phone is on Edge, it won’t work. Your phone and Mac need to be on the same wifi network in order for Remote to work.
if Remote can control iTunes via wifi there must be a way to sync via wifi as well… the pipe does exist as Remote proves it.

I have not found a way to use my iPhone remote app to turn up the volume on my Apple TV. Anyone?
This doesn’t sound like it does what I’ve always wanted the iPhone to do… Use Bonjour to stream my iTunes libraries from my other machines locally.

except for using AirTunes to play music in another room in the house than where your Mac is – which is a very nice new capability – just what is the advantage of Remote? if you are in the room with the AppleTV or Front Row Mac already, the infrared remote does the job better. if you are someplace else where you can’t hear the music, why bother?
now, if you could stream iTunes music/video from your Mac to play on the iPhone/Touch anyplace in the world via the web, that would really be something.
John E I have speakers on my patio, in my garage and upstairs. Right now I am enjoying a beer on my patio with my iPhone controlling my music. For me it works just great.
