I’ve been a good little boy. No “jailbreaking” for me (much).
So, the launch of Apple’s App Store today was a revelation and a major gift, to say the least. Seriously, I’m this close to crying tears of joy. There are just so many apps that are really useful for free or very little cost!
My iPhone already shamed any other “smartphone” out there; now it makes them want to just shrivel up and die. Which they will soon enough. Some of them are already deep into “hurry up and die” mode.
So far – and this will be a different list for everybody, that’s the best part – I’ve downloaded and played around with the following on my first-generation iPhone which I will be using for the next 16 hours until I get my iPhone 3G (apps are free unless otherwise noted):
• MLB.com At Bat (cost me US$4.99 and worth every damn penny!)
• AOL Radio
• Shazam
• Pandora
• Remote
• Super Monkey Ball ($9.99, had to do it)
• Mobile News Network – Associated Press
• NewNewsWire
• Enigmo ($9.99)
• WeatherBug
• Jott for iPhone
• Where
• iBeer ($2.99, don’t you judge me)
• SportsTap
• Whrrl
• YellowPages Mobile…
Aww, forget it. The list goes on. I gotta go, there’s just too much to see and download and test!!!
Oh, yeah: Tetris for $14.99? EA, you’re killing me. I’m going to hold off on that one for as long as possible…
Tell me about your favorite iPhone/iPod touch apps below!

By far, my favorite is the Ballmer Bobblehead.
iPint!
Went on the New Zealand i-Tunes and looked over the apps. Looks like I will be spending about $30 this weekend!
I spent $50 bucks on apps today already, but even with so many great apps available, one big disappointment for me was the lack of a great Financial Management app. Would’ve paid up to $20 for something similar to Money or Quicken that I can track account balances and expenses with. The ones currently up just cover budgets or certain expenses, but are not a complete banking tool. Soon, I hope!
Someone tell me about Ms. Pac Man. Wife is out with the iPhone, that will be the first game I get. Looks like you can control her with the accelerometer or touchpad on the lower screen.
TELL ME!!!!!!
Yup. Lots of great stuff there. I’m in heaven.
Apple has developed THE hottest Texas HoldEm game ever! Live action real video players. I am blown away.
With reviews like that, check RIM stock sinking.
Did anyone see anthing from Slingbox? That’s the one app I need!
$14.99?
Quote me: ain’t no way in hell
That’s just waaay too much
not for tetris, not for no one, no how
Shazam is blowing my mind.
Freaking amazing!
Man, my wallet is going to be the one crying if I don’t watch it….
Sheesh, $9.99 for Ms. Pacman? Come on!
they have bomberman Touch!! OMG so many memories
Forgive me for not having memorized all the announcements via keynotes, et al . . . . . . but what about skype? I was major shocked at Pandora.
skype . . . . . . are you there . . . . ?
. . . . . Anyone?
Hellooooooooooooooo
Bejeweled 2 is really slick.
Remote seems cool, but have no use for it.
They have a dictionary app which I need(Damn report writing!)-everything else is gravy.
“Would’ve paid up to $20 for something similar to Money or Quicken that I can track account balances and expenses with.”
You mean 72 tip calculators aren’t good enough….what a whiner.
You can share an iTunes song on up to 5 computers.
Can you share an iTunes App on more than one iPhone?
Got my 2.0 software installed and installed it on my 8GB first gen iPhone. Went to App Store. Realized I’m going to need a bigger boat.
Remote is AWESOME. I can now use it to control my stereo in my living room with the tunes on my computer via AirTunes.
Also Shazam is ultra cool. I was in Trader Joes today and they were playing a tune on the store sound system. I just launched the app, it told me the title, the artist and the album with the album cover. Amazing.
And, yes, $14.99 for Tetris is incredible. I would buy it for $4.99 but not a penny more.
Exactly my point. I wonder why Apple allowed for this to happen (multiple apps of pretty much the same thing), since they control all apps that are posted in the App Store. Up to three different versions of one product are alright with me, but the number of Tip Calculators now up is ridiculous.
BTW, The App Store now appears on iTunes’ main page. There’s also a new Privacy Statement you have to accept before downloading apps.

It would be great if there was a Quicken for the iPhone…

Please check out our iEnvision software, which shows really well on the iPhone. Comics, manga, children’s books, newspaper front pages… http://we-envision.com. Thanks.

How much memory did all those programs consume? Give us an idea of proportions. Thanks.
