The Boy Genius Report says that a summer launch for the BlackBerry Thunder may be delayed due to software and hardware design issues, according to a Research in Motion insider.
Yet another iPhone lookalike-not-workalike device, the first touchscreen BlackBerry is described as “in no way shape or form” ready for market debut and has glaring bugs that include an incredibly annoying touchscreen keyboard, a buggy interface, a touchscreen that ripples when touched, and an accelerometer that goes “bonkers” when the device is moved.
The source told BGR that “If Bold was any indication, Thunder won’t be ready for at least another 4-5 months.”
“Most of the people who have handled it thinks it’s a joke,” the source says.
Full article here.
This is a rumor, but, if true, it unsurprisingly sounds as if yet another “iPhone Killer” will be DOA.
I don’t even have to handle it to think it’s a joke!
Free RIM Job with each Dinglberry sold.
“Thunder is good, thunder is impressive; but it is lightning that does the work.” – Mark Twain
iPhone lightning trumps Thunder every time.
It’s perfect! Holding the Blackberry just right, I’ll be able to use that picture of a giant thumb to hitchhike.
It’s a joke now, and will they fix it by launch? Doubtful.

we’ve been waiting for”

I think that would be the band Live. Great pull though. Great song.
classic. RIM is dead. They should shut down and return the money to shareholders. seriously, a little too early to call this one DOA. what did walt mossberg say about the new iphone’s battery life? could barely get through the day – and sometimes didn’t? this is far more important than whether the thunder is having pre-release issues…
@ HMCIV, with that wacky accelerometer, you’ll never get the thumb to stay pointed upright. Rodney Dangerfield got beat up the first time he tried to hitchhike; he used the wrong finger.
Battery life is highly subjective. On days when I use my iPhone for making lots of calls, getting/sending lots of emails, heavy web browsing and using the map feature, it barely makes it through the day and sometimes doesn’t! On normal use days, it has plenty of power left at the end of the day.
you know all the competition has to do is stop trying to be like the iPhone and innovate!
S Jobs: In your dreams, Thunder.
BlackBerry CEO: Yeah, right. Thunder? What’s he talkin’ about, Thunder?
S Jobs: Well, you know, because Thunder always comes after… Lightning!
[reporters crowd around Jobs and iPhone]
BlackBerry CEO: [to his pitcrew] Who here knew about the Thunder thing?
Apologies to Pixar and Co.
The problem with these wannabes is what I have always said. You don’t skate to where the competition is, you skate to where they are going to to be. If you skate to where they are noe, you will always be behind.
I agree. The truth is always simple.
Unfortunately for the iPhone competitors: Innovate (Apple); Imitate (RIM, Sprint, et al); and Idiocy (Microsoft). (Buffet)
The idiocy makes way for the innovator again.
@me
Thanks, but I was alluding to the past tense of ‘living’.
And yes, “Live” wore some great Mental Jewelry while Throwing Copper, but don’t tell because it is a Secret Samodi…
My BB pearl barely makes it through a day when I am heavily using the 3G network. The funniest thing about all of the uproar over a more expensive data plan and shorter battery life is that neither is different from any of the other phones out there. The data plan is the same price whether it is conencted to a BB, Win Smartphone or Iphone. It just proves that Apple is held to a higher standard than all of the other manufacturers.
“a touchscreen that ripples..” Hey now, give RIm a break. At least they’ve managed to copy OSX’ widget effect. 😀
That’s the first thing I thought of too.
BGR is pretty spot on with everything. They even got a 3G iPhone before everyone else.
RIP RIM.
@Crazylegs
If the iPhone 3G has bad battery life, I can’t imagine what the BlackBerry Thunder will be like.
Oh my….How long was the iPhone delayed because of serious bugs before Apple got it right. No one is allowed to delay a product, except Apple of course but when Apple does it, it’s because Apple is really committed to excellence whilst everyone else is simply incompetent.
BTW. The rounded corner shape was in use by Blackberry long before the iPhone but in the re-written annals of MDN history, Apple is the creator of all that is new and innovative (we won’t mention that the Apple dock is derivative from the linux world) and everyone else is just a copycat.
@toonie
Correct – don’t mention that the dock is a derivative from the linux world – because it’s NOT. NextStep ran a dock before Linux.

Get your facts right.
@PowerPhone – great job on the Live titles. I’ve gotten to hang out with those guys a few times and they were always really cool, Ed especially. I’ve never met anyone more centered than him.
