  1. Dear Cross Brit,
the only way to forecast demand more accurately is to take your money upfront and that’s something consumers really hate. Forecasting demand is a combination of mind reading and fuzzy mathematics, particularly for hot consumer products like iPhones.

Then there’s Apple and its decision to launch in 21 countries simultaneously. I’m sure it can only get a certain amount of inventory into every country and would like to have some physically in the stores on launch day.

  2. Swindlah,

Obviously, the same Apple geniuses that predicted robust sales in Canada are also predicting UK sales.

Seems that Apple’s regression equation for consumer demand is an experiment in progress more than a business tool.

  3. Ha, ha, ha,

After Canada, Apple has adjusted UK demand from 1,000 iPhones per day per year to 10 iPhones per day per year.

Therefore, it Apple sells more than 3,650 iPhones annually in UK, Apple will have exceeded demand.

  4. Grown up,

One comes looking for information and gets juvenile rants.

Here’s a short list of “information” I have found lacking here at MDN.

    1. What were Apple’s anticipated sales of iPhone in Canada?

    2. What are Apple’s anticipated sales of iPhone in UK?

    3. How many Macbook Airs has Apple sold since first release, and how has the sales curve trended since January 2008?

    4. When will Apple finally release its 2-year delayed resolution independence?

    5. What’s the reason for the delay in Apple failure to fulfill its promise to deliver resolution independence?

Got any “information”, Grown up? Anyone else? Anyone at all?

    <crickets chirping>

    Apparently not.

I suppose that “information” is another word for fanbois attempting to out do each other in slavish praise of Apple; ignoring obvious Apple flaws, foibles, and failures; and continually self-congratulating each other for excessive displays of unrestrained ingratiating sycophancy and self-perpetuating ignorance punctuated with posts of puerile profanity.

Waiting for predictable fanboi irrational rants, lame excuses, and impotent blubbering. 3…2….1…

  5. I love how windows is so great, you can always tell how great your product isn’t because your customers come here to bash intelligent computer users.

Yes, ha ha ha, that is directed at you. I don’t remember Apple ever saying they were releasing resolution independence, ever. And I know for a fact they don’t ever disclose how many of anything they “plan” on selling. In their history they have only ever said this.

” We would like to sell 16 million total iMacs during the products life span”. No mention of how long of a life span (10 years and counting)

    and second

” we would like to sell 10 million iPhones in 2008, for a 1% market capture”

I like how you have this huge hard on for Apple though, just shows how great your innovations are as a company that you piss people off about a product you haven’t ship, or even publicly stated you were working on.

keep using that zune , ha ha ha….. pun intended schmuck.

  7. @ ha ha ha

my point exactly, when has Apple said what their sales targets were? That’s my point, they haven’t, because they don’t. Don’t be so mad. It will be okay, When it is all said and done Apple will sell how ever many phone, computers and whatever else they sell. They won’t tell you what they expect to sell, they don’t tell anyone that.

You will spend your whole life being mad at a company whose products you would love if you would just give peace a chance.

    Predictable as clockwork.

  9. Of course to anyone but a geek none of those questions are particularly that crucial in the great sheme of things.

Resolution independence would be nice but hardly vital in the argument accepted by knowledgeable and objective judges that OSX is overwhelmingly superior to the sadly disappointing Vista. That obviously upsets you for reasons of your own but hey live with it.

Iphone sales will be judged by results over the next 6 months immediately and over the longer term in that same great scheme of things. Lets just say that at things stand things look rather good if demand is going to exceed supply for a short while. Microsoft no doubt would love that problem on various of its products.

Again we will see what the sales figures for the Air are over time but from what most in the know are saying sales are extremely good. Even my own company’s bigoted Microsoft IT ass licker lusts for one, having just bought himself a touch. So no wonder you are worried about losing your little ‘friends’. Again live with it.

I am glad to say that while someone is anal enough to ask a question about it no one seems particularly anal enough to know what the exact Canadian iPhone sales target is. Suggests that at least on the Mac side there is some sanity remaining.

I do note that the person so disparaging about those ‘fools’ queing for iPhones is still spending just so much ‘precious’ time on here in his own sad and losing battle with market reality. Some life you hav there. For a third time get over it, after all if you are so confident why so much vetriol? Got an answer to That? And while you answer that perhaps we can have some answers about why Vista, the zune and increasingly even the Xbox are such failures and when will they be turned into acceptable products, let alone ones remotely desirable as the iPhone? Hey there is a life out there if you open your eyes and hey lose that anger, its an ugly trait and you really don’t want to turn out like your lust bunny in Redmond now do you.

  10. Just to note, I can’t post quickly enough because I am in the middle of making sure my kids get their showers. You know, important things…..

    Breakfast
    Lunch
    Baths

    Resolution Independence
    How many this
    How many that

All the things in life that matter for survival

  11. O2 should sack the idiotic bean counter who did’nt order enough iPhones.

I got a text telling me it was in and as usual O2 fucks up.

To be honest, I am going to wait until all the early adopters whine about only the 3hrs battery life before I by one.

My iPhone 2.5g get 9hrs of battery life, and being a freelance designer I am normally out all day, so I wait and see how bad the battery life will be before I will get a 3g iPhone.

If its under 7hrs I cartainly am not buying one as it wont be practical for my needs and I dont plan to charge it 3 times a day.

The GPS is what I need, having to goto creative studios all over the place – it would be very handy for me, but not handy enough if the battery life sucks.

Only time will tell if the battery life is any good…

  12. re: Can’t Apple manage ANYTHING these days?!?!

For crying out loud, Microsoft, Nokia or HP don’t sell out of product before it has arrived.

    —-

That’s because no one wants those shit phones.

In my 20yrs of using mobile phone Apple is the only company to sell out of a phone ever!

And the only one to sell out before the thing is released.

  13. In the long run, it will not matter much if you have to wait a few weeks for the new iPhone. Apple often have huge demand for their products and inevitably there is a shortage in the beginning.

For those new to Apple products, it was only a few years back that it took over 3 months for Apple to ship the new Powerbook Pro (Titanium).

Apple are way better than they used to be in meeting demand. However the new iPhone will push them to the limit.
