Yankee Group: 8 in 10 businesses now using Apple Macs

macbook pro, apple macbook, apple macbook pro“Nearly 80% of businesses have Macs in-house, nearly double the percentage that said they had users running Mac OS X two years ago, a research firm said today,” Gregg Keizer reports for Computerworld.

“‘Then, we were talking about onesies and twosies,’ said Laura DiDio, a research fellow at Yankee Group Research Inc. who conducted a survey of more than 700 senior IT administrators and C-level executives. ‘Now the number of actual users is very significant. A number of the businesses said that they had 50 or 100 or even several thousand Macs deployed,'” Keizer reports.

“In early 2006, when DiDio last polled corporate IT professionals on Mac deployment, 47% said that they had Apple Inc. hardware in their environments,” Keizer reports.

“DiDio was impressed with the growth of Macs in business, considering that Apple Inc. has put little to no official effort into that part of the market,” Keizer reports. “‘This isn’t a tidal wave, but it’s certainly a sustained trend,’ she said. ‘Apple has a beachhead in business. Where it once had just 1-to-2% market share in corporate, now they’re up to 8-to-10%,’ DiDio added. Twenty-one percent of the firms surveyed reported that they had deployed more than 50 Macs.”

  1. First a beachhead then we’ll drive the Nazi war machine from the face of this good planet. Ballmer in Hitler outfit telling his last few remaining Generals We’ll beat the decadent Google scum and the Yahoo Board that prevented my take over plans, shall be made to pay with the big Ballmer’s fist.

  2. I’ve often said if I had to choose between corporate accounts and small business accounts… I would choose the latter cause there a whole lot more and it looks as if Apple is doing the same.

Take the small business business when ever you can and in time the corporate world will follow as they generally do.

  3. my SCHOOL is 100% Mac. Its awesome, we can actually use the computers. We have the OS X Server, and each of the 300+ students in the school have their own user account. Its great! Last year, we had a bunch of crappy Dells in the “other room” that no one wanted to use, everyone tried getting into the room with the Macs, and if you were too late, you had to use the Dells… *shudders*.

  4. Thanks, silverwarloc.
