Sony Ericsson warns: moderating demand of its mid-to-high-end phones negatively affecting income

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB announced today that its net sales and net income before taxes in the second quarter of 2008 continue to be negatively affected by moderating demand of mid-to-high end mobile phones, in combination with a delay of new products shipped during the quarter.

Although final results may differ, Sony Ericsson plans to ship approximately 24 million phones during the second quarter of 2008 with an estimated ASP (Average Selling Price) of EUR 115 (US$180). Gross margin is expected to decline both year over year and sequentially. Net income before taxes is estimated to be about break-even.

Sony Ericsson plans to announce the second quarter 2008 financial results on July 18 at 7:30 am UK time/8:30 am CET.

  1. Mad Mac Maniac, you never cease to amaze me at how truly far from reality your views are. And unlike Zune Tang® you actually seem serious about it, not parodying.

Remember, if you vote for a Republican or a Democrat, you’re pretty much getting the same result, because honestly at the top level politicians are far more driven by polls, image, money, and favors (owed or needed) than they are by ideology. Not singling out any individual from either party, but just look at the way the government runs, truly from a neutral perspective for a moment, and you’ll see that the demands of the system are too much for any idealogue to correct. By the way, many Americans actually prefer a bit of socialism it seems, because they’re tired of making decisions and being responsible. Probably not a good idea to use that particular point as a negative attack, it might be an attractor instead.

The world has always been about competition. But the higher prices are a combination of scarcity, speculation, and inefficiency of systems. The fact that China has MFN trading status and out of control growth isn’t really a problem. Frankly, most tariffs and protectionism is a problem. Read up on economics and learn a little bit about how price / demand / growth are really connected and what impedes them.

I highly recommend an easy read called “The Undercover Economist” by Tim Harford for anyone who wants a refreshing look at how the world really works. There’s a whole chapter on how China has become the fastest growing economy in the world, and how the fears of Americans that soon China will make “everything” are blown out of proportion. (Hint: If we don’t make anything, we have nothing to trade, and if we have nothing to trade, then China won’t send us anything. It’s a self-correcting system that requires balance.)

Now that the dollar has weakened considerably and imports cost much more to transport, you’ll see things moving back into alignment, even some manufacturing will move back to America once it becomes cheaper to do locally than through imports.

“Stupid democrats. Do your research, think and reason before you idiots open your mouths!”

I heartily recommend the same to you, but without the name calling. It’s not a schoolyard, and you’re not a 13-year-old bully. (At least, I presume you’re not.) Try some logical discourse using subjective arguments and see what kind of discussion ensues. You might be surprised, and you might even learn something from a discussion that you wouldn’t get from “soapboxing”.

  2. Had a SonyEriccson T616 until it was stolen a week ago. Didn’t care … hated it … lots of features but try to find them … what a lousy OS. I’ll be buying an iPhone the second they go on sale … and loving it.

  3. Great reasoning, our Taxes are less????? How does one come to this conclusion???? Have you all noticed the $4 a gallon gas?? Not to mention everything else we are paying more for. I will gladly take the $1 a gallon gas, cheaper milk, sugar, lumber and everything else along with whatever candidate will give it to me. You party loyalist amaze me. Give me what I need, I don’t care which camp of thieves and liars you are from.

I love how people think there is a difference in the “parties”.

    Sorry Nut, I dont wanna talk with you and your pals ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  5. Last I checked, this was Mac Daily News.

Can we stay on subject please?

This whole Republican v.s. Democrat thing is really getting old. The truth is, neither of them is perfect, and no matter who wins, we still have a flawed system.

I could go on, but as I stated above, this is Mac Daily News. Let’s keep it that way, shall we?
