RUMOR: Apple Macbook Pro to get Macbook Air-like keyboard

“We have received some new information regarding Apple’s Macbook and Macbook Pro models, which have been long overdue for a design overhaul. Although the current case design is nearly flawless on both, rumors have continued to circulate about complete case refreshes for both machines,” Aviv reports for MacBlogz.

“We have spoken with a connected source close to us, and they tell us that the Macbook Pro will, ‘100% have a Macbook Air-like keyboard. Feeling more like the Macbook’s current keyboard, yet offering backlight,'” Aviv reports.

“We asked about the track-pad but they shrugged it off as if it was no big deal. Almost indicating that the current track-pad might be sufficient in Apple’s opinion. We also asked if they could confirm a launch date, to no avail,” Aviv reports. “We think it would only make sense for the Macbook Pro to inherit the Air’s track-pad. And based on Apple’s past history, the end-of-the-summer (right before school starts) launch date seems pretty accurate.”

  1. With all those left over MBA parts lying around from slumping sales, Apple quickly innovates and wedges these dust gatherers into the classic MacBook Pros.

Recycling worthless scrap, excellent. That ought to keep Green Peace quiet for a few weeks.

  2. I really hope this is just a rumor. My main hobby is writing and I traded up my MacBook to a MacBook Pro only 1 month after I bought it on account of the keyboard. The MBP keyboard is awesome for typing, with its concave keys and standard spacing. The MB KB and new Aluminum KBs are great for general use, but for writing they cause me no end of trouble.

  3. Hey, look! I’ve got a new Macbook Pro with the new keyboard!

The screen still looks like crap.

    It’s got a new keyboard.

But the screen still loooks like crap.

    It’s got Sno’ Leopard, too.

And the screen still look like crap.

Apple, same crap inside, new crap outside.

  4. Brian,

Thankfully, you can purchase one of several third party keyboards. That shouldn’t cost too much, although carrying around you keyboard will diminish the portability of your notebook. Maybe someone will invent caps that fit over the keys that provide the concave feature you want.

  5. Would Apple really update the MacBook in the middle of the back to school promo?

I mean, I hope they DO, because I’m one of those back to school types (MBA!) and I really really want to get the most updated one possible…
