Rogers and Apple to bring iPhone 3G to Canada on July 11

Rogers Communications and Apple today announced that the highly anticipated iPhone 3G will be available in Canada on July 11. iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast* as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.

“Rogers has a long history of bringing Canadians the very best in wireless services, networks and handset innovations,” said Rob Bruce, president, Rogers Wireless, in the press release. “With iPhone 3G, we will provide our customers with an amazing mobile experience over Canada’s fastest wireless network.”

“We’re excited to be working with Rogers to bring iPhone 3G to Canada,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s COO. “We can’t wait to get this revolutionary phone in the hands of even more people around the world.”

iPhone 3G will operate on Rogers’ High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) wireless network, the fastest mobile network in Canada. HSPA is nationally available in the top Canadian urban centers from Vancouver to Halifax, covering more than 60 percent of the population. iPhone 3G will also operate on Roger’s coast-to-coast GSM/EDGE network, proven to be the country’s most reliable wireless network. More details on pricing and retail availability will be available soon.

  1. First off, congratulations to our neighbors to the North for you finally (and legally) getting the iPhone in Canada.

Don’t be too concerned with Rogers not having the iPhone mentioned on their web site. AT&T;was the same way on their site, just providing the barest of information about the iPhone and it’s plan. They pretty much left it up to Apple to advertise this device. I suspect that Rogers will be the same way. Eventually, they’ll find out that they got a good deal and they’ll have more information on their web site too.

    Best of luck.

  2. Yeah, Thx Rudge.

Can you tell we’re suspect of Rogers?

One half of the ‘iPhone in Canada experience’ is already a third base hit. We all hope that ‘someone’ — and I think you know who we mean — will do what they need to.

And they don’t get three tries. Outta the park, on the first swing.

I mean, what should we expect? Rogers has played hardball for so long now ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Hey Johnny, I don’t think Apple helped Rogers with their problem, I think they finally got off their asses I dealt with it. They are such a Windows centric company and the culture there is stagnant when it comes looking into the future, ie Mac
Not a week goes by that my Real Estate customers moan and complain because that don’t know how to deal with a zip file or ftp delivery or even a jpg all because of MS. Life is easier on a Mac and Rogers doesn’t get it.

  4. I don’t think rogers wireless will give a reasonable unlimited data plan. They are too greedy. Imagine the data plan they offer today. It’s unbelievably expensive! You’re charged by the number of bytes as if this virtual thing is gold! You are literally burning money. If they are going to continue doing this then Canada will be left out in technology. I wish more players like AT&T;will come into Canada. Too bad it won’t come true. Poor iphone I can’t surf the net unless there’s wifi with no password….
