RUMOR: Apple to debut next-gen iPhone on June 9 with immediate availability

“We all suspected it, but now it is confirmed: someone very, very close to the 3G iPhone launch has told me that Apple will announce their new model at the WWDC Keynote on June 9th. The second-generation iPhone will be available worldwide right after the launch,” Jesus Diaz reports for Gizmodo.

“According to another source involved in the launch, the 3G iPhone will no longer be available at a fixed price point—at least in some countries, and its launch will also bring new sales policies, although these have not been completely specified yet,” Diaz reports.

  1. Can anyone offer an explanation for how this is possible without any reports of FCC device approval? Isn’t typical approval time at least 6 weeks? I know there are requests that can be made to withhold release of certain specifications, but with this ‘confirmation’ there’s supposedly less than 3 weeks before roll out and no word, leak or hint from FCC or other international communications agency approval.

Isn’t it more likely that we’ll see another announcement of the device at the event (like @ MW’07) with the availability coming shortly thereafter?

  2. they’ll announce it, it wont be available to the public until after the 30 day fcc restriction. Just my guess, ewasn’t there an article here that talked about how second iterations of devices could have mum periods through the FCC?

  3. About time, my phone is dying and I have been fighting very hard on not buying the current iphone right now. I can’t wait 3 more weeks, right? RIGHT?

oh my… can someone please hide my wallet from me for the next few weeks?

  4. it could already be submitted and will show up as certified by the fcc on june 9th. The FCC can keep unannounced items under wraps when testing but upon certification it goes public.

If i’m wrong then yeah it may be a few weeks after june 9th, but i think this is how it can work.

  5. I really really hope it WON’T be available on June 9th. I can’t see Apple doing it either. Why? I’ll be AT WWDC, and it’s going to be tough staying in sessions and sticking to my work schedule instead of running out and playing with the new iPhone.

It may seem like a small thing compared to the whole iPhone market out there, but it would still be a wacky thing for Apple to do to their own event.

  6. Somebody told me who knows someone close to the garbage man who collects the garbage of the hairdresser of the janitor of the personal assistant to Steve Jobs that the 3G phone is going to have a built in email client, the ability to sync its calendar to a computer and best yet, it’s got a built in ipod! Imagine that! Start the lines folks, we got a real winner coming down the pike!

  7. My wishlist:
Contact and Calendar sync over Bluetooth
Info such as # of E-mail, RSS stories on unlock screen
    RSS feeds (syncable)
    Landscape keyboard everywhere
MMS Text (really? how could they not have this already)
    Keychain
    Copy and Paste
    Video Recorder
    Stronger Vibrate
    Louder Speaker

The last two are actually my biggest complaint

There are more, I will have to remember them.

  8. I am really glad this person reported something we didn’t know. Does anyone know anything at all?? 3g, WOW. New iPhone on June 9th. WOW. Nobody knew!! Boy are we all in the dark and just retyping the speculation blindly while we wait. Usually somebody knows something.
These article are really a waste. It is so quiet that we have to remake some new newz.

  9. “oh my… can someone please hide my wallet from me for the next few weeks?”

    My address is

    625 Derrick Circle
    Morgan, UT 84050

I will only charge you $50 for the service and I swear I won’t steal the rest…..

  10. A wishlist is a good idea. If my Macbook screen can have a tiny iSight camera built in, then, other than battery life, why can’t the iPhone have one at the top face? There is room, at least on the outside. Not sure about the inside.
I don’t want a cheap plastic look, but I would shiny down some the aluminum rim and the back, something to help distinguish it as the second generation iPhone. The iSight on the front would also distinguish it. That’s my hardware wish, my software wish is pretty much the same as everyone else’s.

  11. Good luck Winblows mobile. I won’t be getting an iphone but sure love watching that video of blowhard (ballmer) when he ridcules the market share of the iPhone.
I hope every journalist that interviews hims asks him the question of the iPhone marketshare as it grows towards the end of the year and passes RIM.
