“Scheduled delivery of Apple computers to schools run by the New York City Department of Education have been temporarily suspended due to problems related to connecting to the DOE’s wireless network infrastructure,” Prince McLean reports for AppleInsider.
“Apple is scrambling to address the WiFi connectivity issue within its Leopard operating system. The fix appears set to be included in the bug fixes of the upcoming Mac OS X 10.5.3 release, as noted in the report Successive Mac OS X 10.5.3 builds continue,” McLean reports.
“Until the software fix ships, all Macs on order with wireless features are being held at Dell’s merge center in Austin, Texas. The DOE contracted with Dell Managed Services to handle all of the school system’s tech related ordering, including the procurement of Apple desktops, laptops, and servers,” McLean reports.

MacDailyNews Take: It’s about time those poor bastages at Dell’s merge center got to handle some quality personal computers.
How is this an Apple issue? It seems to be a problem on the NYC Dept. of Education’s end.
Fargin’ iceholes!!!
And, shouldn’t it be “Dell’s Layoff Center”?
Exactly how many WiFi protocols are out there? I would have thunk that Apple would be able to handle them by now.
The facility must be the only Dell facilty still in black
Howdy
The Mac bough under this contract
sometime are not even the current
version of Macs, and priced highter.
To me NYC DOE is getting screw.
and this are the bussiness smart guy
running the department ..
If the School’s door locks were broken and they couldn’t deliver the computers, would Apple be responsible to get a locksmith?
What a bunch of crap!
@DOENYC
what?
Apple needs to send a tech their ASAP. It doesn’t matter whose fault. Apple needs to demonstrate excellent customer service and turn this into a win.
LET”S GO< PEOPLE< YOU”RE POOR, WRONG GRAMMAR AND SPELING BE KILING ME. R U EDUK8TD AT THESE PIS POOR NYC SKOOL? I BE!
MDN MW = “white”. DAT IZ CRACKER TO U.
Better hurry up and some Macs in there, based on these grammatical issues it looks like the quality of education has been sliding.
… and get some Macs in there… [See my point?]
Anyone else think about the possibility of the Dell people messing with the Macs before they’re delivered? Scary thought.
Wow. Loved the obscure Johnny Dangerously reference from MDN!! Not sure many 20-somethings would have a clue about that, the fargin’ iceholes!
“You shouldn’t have shot me, Johnny. My grandmother shot me, once…”

Firstly, Apple would not have “apologized” for the problem or be “scrambling” to “resolve” the problem if Apple was not culpable for the problem. I’m certain that NYC DOE first sought to solve the problem internally, before concluding that the problem was due to some incompatibility with Apple software.
Secondly, do you know what the problem is exactly, or are you simply talking out of your “icehole”, fanboi?
Thirdly, I reckon that your current occupation is not customer relations.

Are you kiddin?
hmm. I do see the irony of Dell employees delivering Apple goods. The wave of the future. Instead of seeling the company and giving dough back to shareholders, just become a distribution hub for Apple.
I’m still using the kext file from 10.5.1. 10.5.2 totally screwed my wifi stability on my 1st gen MBP, but oddly enough it fixed wifi for my girlfriend on her 1st gen Macbook. Hopefully news like this puts more pressure on Apple to fix the issue.
Our elementary school is currently installing Macs for the first time and running into proxy server issues and wireless as well, especially with Safari.
If this is what it takes to get 10.5.3 out the door pronto, I say the more noise the better! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
Every now and then Mac lovers should to take a reality pill! As great as Apple and the Macintosh is as a computing company or platform, it falters as a deity! Ever since Leopard my WiFi connection regularly goes into scanning mode. Its annoying to me as a home user, it would utterly unacceptable to me in any business that I would run. (Honestly, it is sufficiently annoying to me on a personal level to have caused me to hard wire as much as my home network as I possibly could!)
You’re doing it wrong.
@Afib,
First, the “fargin’ iceholes” comment was a take on MDN’s take, which is from the movie “Johnny Dangerously”.
Second, neither I, nor anyone else on this site, knows what the true issue is – we are all guessing, including me.
Third, I am somewhat in customer relations – and my patients tend to like me.
Fourth, you are an @$$hole!
Have a good night!
Maybe their internet is gone

Stan’s got a cool desktop.
Maybe some educational institution could this way force Apple to fix also iMovie 08? I believe that iMovie is used in schools a lot and they could easily say that they won’t buy any new computers before Apple makes iM08 to handle DV video properly.
