Apple debuts new ‘Get a Mac’ ad: ‘Office Stress’ (with video)

Apple today debuted a new “Get a Mac” ad on broadcast and cable TV networks across the U.S. and on the company’s website.

In the new ad, “Office Stress,” PC offers Mac a stress toy, but ends up squeezing it throughout the commercial because Macs just got the latest version of Microsoft Office, Mac can do all of the office stuff PC can do, Macs are so compatible with PCs, and people want to transfer all of their files to Mac.

  1. My officemates on 2 year old PCs are suffering mightily on Office 2007. They are complaining of sluggishness; some say its 10x slower than Office 2003.

Back on topic, I just love how Apple is turning a MS positive (release of Office 2008) into a negative. Wicked.

  2. unfortunately however there is no arabic (or any right to left language support) for word 2008, and as someone who has to work extensively in arabic, french and english and exchange said files w/windows users pages is not an option. Therefore I’ve been running office 2007 on my imac via bootcamp w/vista sp1 and have little to no problems

  3. “Actually, the poor suckers using Office 08 on the Mac will need a stress toy.”

Not really, but I’m not that impressed with it either. I thought it was supposed to be faster than Office 04 on Intel iMacs, but it actually seems slower on mine.

  4. The Mac Office 2008 is DOGGG slow. It takes about a minute and half to launch any of the apps. So called native now for Intel, it’s slower than 2004. Plus, Excel has no macros. I hate having to use it. In my opinion no one should go beyond the 2004 version if you have to use Office at all. It’s obvious that MS purposely hobbles its Mac products.

  5. Spark you’re right. I cannot believe how long it takes to open any one of the 08 apps! It’s crazy – it feels like 2 minutes or more.

I’ve gone back to 2004 as well.

And you might be onto something there with the conspiracy theory too, as I don’t see how it’s remotely possible for a supposedly now ‘native’ app to run slower than non-native. Fargin’ bastages…

  6. @Spark & makemineamac. Yeah, startup time is a real pain, and the apps seem slower in operation also.

I still use Entourage 04 for attachment to our PC network Exchange server, and I’m now questioning the wisdom of my 08 upgrade for Word, Excel and PowerPoint. I’ve previously praised the efforts of the MS Mac Business Unit, but they sure seem to have dropped the ball on this one.

I endorse Spark’s comments. If you need to use Office (and I do), consider sticking with 2004.

  7. Unfortunately my working life means Vista with Office 2007 on a new PC…..it’s like pulling teeth on a daily basis.
Seems as though M$ took 2 steps forward towards making it look like a new version, and 3 steps back in terms of speed.
Basic operations, let alone running macros is worse than my old P4.
    Avoid.

  8. In several of these comments, you could swap the words, Office for Mac 2008 for Windows Vista and Mac:Office 2004 for Windows XP. It’s not just the MBU that’s releasing spheroid objects from great heights.
