“Apple Inc. continued this week with a somewhat unusual practice of providing outside developers with successive builds of its next operating system update, Mac OS X 10.5.3, fairly early in the testing cycle,” Katie Marsal reports for AppleInsider.
“The company has historically followed a pattern in which it would alternate between releasing external and internal builds, where successive external seeds — those to outside developers — would only occur in the days leading up to the software’s intended release,” Marsal reports.
“Development of Mac OS X 10.5.3 has not been following that course. Instead, Apple has externally seeded three successive builds of the OS update to its vast developer community, beginning with build 9D10 late last month and continuing on through build 9D12 on Thursday,” Marsal reports.

I was helping a woman at church with her Leopard-based Mac Mini that was printing the first few lines on her HP inkjet but no more. We had installed the latest HP drivers and made all the checks, deleted and reinstalled the driver, checked for new drivers, printed via Preview, etc to no avail.
On deleting/rebuilding the last time I chose the CUPS driver rather than the HP driver and it worked properly with even more features than the HP driver. It’s been working for weeks now. CUPS saved the day!
I have never had issues until now either, ever… it’s an HP LaserJet 1150 and it has worked perfectly for years through 10.3 & 10.4. Drivers are updated. It’s been uninstalled and reinstalled… I don’t think it’s a driver issue. I think there’s a hanging issue with communicating with the printer. Half the time it works. Usually, if I put my computer to sleep and wake it up, the first thing that happens, is it begins printing once I restart the queue. I do think there’s a lingering stalling issue that they thought they fixed in 10.5.2 but didn’t quash all the way. We’ll see… waiting for 10.5.3 and crossing my fingers.

i have never, in over 20 years of computing, had a good driver experience with HP. not for any driver for any bit of equipment that they make. some of the hardware is great, but the software acts like it was made by a temp who last worked at MS and came over to HP with a bad attitude….
I really hope they get the external monitor bug fixed so that I can again use my 23″ monitor with my MBP.

I use my MPB with 24″ Dell external every work day, never once had a problem with Tiger or Leopard. What kind of bug are you experiencing?
Scott, when I updated my system at home, my ancient LaserJet 4 stopped working (it’s just print a PS error) I dug up some old drivers from HPs web site and re-installed them, all worked fine.
Try installing the not-the-latest drivers, especially if it’s an old printer.
Scot, you might want to let go of that ImageWriter and get yourself a new printer!
I started having a similar problem just a few weeks ago! It’s bugging the hell out of me. but I’ve been too busy to take both to an Apple Genius Bar. My MacBook Pro will no longer recognize my Apple 20″ LCD. Are there any forum threads on this bug? Or any other info you can provide?

I had printing problems prior to the release of 10.5.2. Since then, most seem to have been solved.
I haven’t experienced any monitor issues (20″ Mac cinema to 2.4GHz 15″ LED macbook pro). Also I attend a school with 60 or so of us using this same MBP model, and another 100 using the last years model. I can’t speak for the older ones but I have not heard of one problem with the new MBP’s being hooked up to 23″ Apple Cinema’s (the one classroom has those and we hook up at least 2 times a week).

NUMEROUS printer manufactures have failed to provide driver updates for their printer drivers and 10.5.
This is sort of diving off a bit, but has anyone had issues with color going wonky in 10.5? I have a Canon printer that did good color like a champ before I upgraded, literally right before I upgraded. I’ve tried everything I know, and everything is still coming up sepia . . . I even checked to see if there was a Quartz filter turned on anywhere obscure, and nada.
