In a phone interview, Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney told The iPod Observer that he believes Apple has ordered a second round of 10 million next-gen 3G iPhones, based on what he’s heard in Asian circles.
“This is in addition to the ten million first generation iPhones that Apple has said it will sell by the end of 2008,” John Martellaro reports for The iPod Observer.

Whee! Here we go! Full steam ahead!
In other news, analyst predict winter will end soon.
But if it snows during spring it’s Apple’s fault and the stock should get hammered.
All of those for me! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
I badly need one!
AAPL over $200 anyone.
When they come out I’ll be buying one. An iphone has changed my digital life for the better a 3g iphone will be a big help to me.
Good news, but the fact that iPhones are much more expensive to buy and to ‘keep’ than in the U.S. would suggest that the lack of 3g wasn’t the only reason for disappointing sales in Europe.
mmmmmmmmmm, 3G iPhone aarrrlllllgggggwarrllllaarrrrlllll (drool drool drool).
Oooooooh, iPhone 3G… I’m getting moist down there.
@ think: it snowed here in Belgium last weekend, quite unusual at this time of the year. Nevertheless the stock was up yesterday and on monday.
But this night my pillow disappeared!
Coincidence? I don’t think so.
“second round of 10 million 3G iPhones” as the headline states implies 30 million iPhones altogether (1st round 3G of 10m, 2nd round of 3G of 10m, original non 3G batch of 10m).
The third paragraph of the article itself says it to mean 20 million altogether (10 million 3G, 10 million not 3G).
Odd, but I don’t remember Apple ever saying that they would sell 10 mil first generation iPhones in 2008, just that they would sell 10 mil iPhones. To me that means any version of the iPhone, 1st generation or 2nd (3g) generation combined, not independently.
I think these analysts can’t read or listen very well.
Those who sit on this forum every day are more likely to be more clued in than any analyst out there.
Here it comes, the analyst who has nothing to lose if he’s wrong and everything to gain if he happens to be first getting the rumor correct.
It it helps the stock get over $142.33 I’ll be happy!
Bingo! Wall Street is listening (for now), Wed, Mar 26, 2008 – 09:56 AM EDT — AAPL: 142.89 (+1.91, +1.35%)!
And after that… they’ll order another ten million more.
And after that… they’ll order another ten million more.
(Go to first line.)
@Gavron
You’re an idiot.
Only you and the clueless asswipes keeps perpetuating the myth of so called ‘disappointing sales’ in Europe.
All operators have claimed iPhone the best ever selling phone from launch. You are licking too much anal-ists crap buddy.
So the 3G iphone has been completely designed and finished….im not so sure.
If apple announced the original iphone in Jan so they could submit it to the FCC before the FCC had a chance to leak info, wouldnt they do the same about a 3G version?
Wouldnt they want it to be FCC certified BEFORE the ordered it to be manufacturer???
I hope they bring the 3G iPhones in at the current price and drop the current GSM iPhones down in price as the ‘Nano’ iPhone range.
HolyMackerel – yes a good plan for Apple to introduce a tier structure in the iP range.
iP 2.0 is good for me as (at last) my old contract’s up.
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
If you have 3G version, but are not in a 3G area, will it then work with Edge 2.5 ? like wifi 811N will still work in a 811G network?
sorry if this is a stupid question, and doesn’t really matter to me one way or the other, as where I live we have neither
d,
why on earth are you so viciously insulting?
If you don’t share my opinion then just say so, without reverting to obscenities
iPhones cost about 40% to 50% more in Europe than in the U.S. (sales tax is more here, about 20% on average)
Here in Berlin, I haven’t seen one yet, and the people I know who showed interest in buying one have said that they are too expensive.
Calm down, dear boy!
The headline is misleading.
Apple has ordered a second round of iPhones, not of 3G iPhones. The second round just happens to be 3G. The headline suggests that Apple has ordered 2 rounds of 3G.
Jenna give me a call.
@ HotinPlaya:
Yes, the 3G is the primary tech and it will automatically go to Edge when it loses 3G signal and go back to 3G when it surfaces up. It does that on my temporary AT&T;Razr.
@Ron and Jenna
You should both give me a call
@d
Interpolating from European Christmas sales (= reducing estimated 2008 Q1 a bit because Xmas-quarter is usually the strongest and because the heavy Macfans have already bought their iPhone) means about 300-400k sold iPhones in January-March 2008.
It’s pointless to debate this until the Q1 figures comes out but I think thats a fair estimate for France&UK;&Germany;combined.
Slightly dissapointing IMO..
