Apple today released MacBook, MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 which addresses an issue where the first key press may be ignored if the computer has been sitting idle. It also addresses some other issues.
Installation of MacBook and MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 requires Mac OS X 10.5.2.
The MacBook and MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 supports the following products:
• MacBook (Late 2006)
• MacBook (Mid 2007)
• MacBook (Late 2007)
• MacBook Pro (17-inch Core 2 Duo)
• MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo)
• MacBook Pro (Mid 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz)
• MacBook Pro (Late 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz)
This update installs an application in the Utilities folder called “Built-in Keyboard Firmware Update.” The updater application will automatically open. Once open, please follow the instructions within the application to complete the update. It can also be manually run later by double-clicking the updater in the Utilities folder.
MacBook, MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 is available via Software Update and also as a standalone installer.

Kind of lame that you need 10.5.2. I have always suspected my MB was doing this (but thought maybe I just wasn’t hitting the first key fully). I’d love to have it fixed, but am still on 10.4.11.

I have the original MBP 17″ (core duo, without the “2”), so this update is not for my machine.
Ever since installing Leopard, Safari often loses the first keystroke after I type command-f for find. Is this happening to anyone else?
Only four of my keys work now. The S. . . the N . . . the A and . . . PPPPPP.

1) Install:

What Apple means: “This update installer does not launch automatically until you log out or begin shut down.”
2) What Apple says: “Apple today released MacBook, MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 which addresses an issue where the first key press may be ignored if the computer has been sitting idle. It also addresses some other issues.”
What Apple means: “It also creates other issues. Holding down the option key on startup will no longer work to bring up the menu for dual-boot. You need to hold down the option key on an external keyboard to bring up this menu now.”

I thought the same thing.. but when I quit the Software Update app, it started automatically for me…..
So, if the new firmware is 1.0 what version was the old firmware?
My MBP keyboard and TrackPad stopped working after the update. Oh, the irony.

Well, no. No, it won’t. Not even after I quit Software Update. I had to go find and run the updater myself. The result?
Misses of initial keypresses are definitely reduced in frequency, but nowhere near completely gone. Try again, Apple. And while you’re at it, why not actually test the software update to make sure that it does what you say it is going to do? We tend to lose faith when you repeatedly Microsoft it like this.
Installed the update on my C2D MBPro, and I still have the same problems. Oh well!

they are half-height video cards designed for small form-factor systems. they should fit in your case unless its a non-standard design or the motherboard lacks a video card expansion slot (some super cheap computers lack video expansion).. to find one go to newegg. under advanced search, low profile and low profile-ready can be selected under form factor. if you really wanted to, you could also modify your case, but don’t try it unless you absolutely know what you are doing.
