Is Barack Obama an Apple Mac and Hillary Clinton a Windows PC?

“Styles make fights — or so goes the boxing cliché. In 2008, they make presidential campaigns, too,” Noam Cohen reports for The New York Times.

“This is especially true for the two remaining Democrats, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Reporters covering the candidates have already resorted to traditional analysis of style — fashion choices, manner of speaking, even the way they laugh. Yet, according to design experts, the candidates have left a clear blueprint of their personal style — perhaps even a window into their souls — through the Web sites they have created to raise money, recruit volunteers and generally meet-and-greet online,” Cohen reports.

“On one thing, the experts seem to agree. The differences between and can be summed up this way: Barack Obama is a Mac, and Hillary Clinton is a PC,” Cohen reports.

“That is, Mr. Obama’s site is more harmonious, with plenty of white space and a soft blue palette. Its task bar is reminiscent of the one used at Apple’s iTunes site. It signals in myriad ways that it was designed with a younger, more tech-savvy audience in mind — using branding techniques similar to the ones that have made the iPod so popular,” Cohen reports. “‘With Obama’s site, all the features and elements are seamlessly integrated, just like the experience of using a program on a Macintosh computer,’ said Alice Twemlow, chairwoman of the M.F.A. program in design criticism at the School of Visual Arts (who is a Mac user).”

“In contrast to, Mrs. Clinton’s site uses a more traditional color scheme of dark blue, has sharper lines dividing content and employs cookie-cutter icons next to its buttons for volunteering, and the like,” Cohen reports. “Jason Santa Maria, creative director of Happy Cog Studios, which designs Web sites, detected a basic breach of netiquette. ‘Hillary’s text is all caps, like shouting,’ he said.”

Cohen reports, “While Apple’s ad campaign maligns the PC by using an annoying man in a plain suit as its personification, it is not clear that aligning with the trendy Mac aesthetic is good politics. The iPod may be a dominant music player, but the Mac is still a niche computer. PC, no doubt, would win the Electoral College by historic proportions (with Mac perhaps carrying Vermont).”

  1. Freshness: Obama = Mac OS, Clinton = Windows

Experience: Obama = Vista, Clinton = Unix

Consistency on Iraq: Obama = Consistent user interface guidelines, Clinton = brushed metal

Substance: Obama = Facebook, Clinton = LinkedIn

Integrity: Obama = Open source, Clinton = DRM

Electoral College: Mondale = Mac OS, Reagan = Windows

  2. The election is already over. The idealistic (totally unrealistic) Dems have shot themselves in the foot yet again. It’ll be a black guy named Barack Hussein Osama (Obama, whatever) or a shrill woman nightmare (with tremendous baggage, not to mention tremendous saddlebags) for the Dems in 2008.

    Get used to this, people:

    President John McCain.

  3. It never ceases to amaze me that no mater how bad the Republican Candidate, the Democrats always run a candidate that can’t win the general election (except perhaps Gore). No one who is subject to PMS should ever control nuclear weapons. That puts one candidate down. The second candidate is a first term Senator with no executive experience. There are enough red necks in this country that realistically, the chances of either to be president in our lifetimes are non existent. McCain was the Amnesty man, Romeny is trying to buy the Whitehouse and that leaves Huckabee, a middle class moderate…. Hum….

  4. I think this is a great way to analyze our future politicos….Shit, with all the hyperspeech about what each candidate will do for our future, it is about as good a measure as any. Hell, I will take it over the last debate.

  5. @GOP Operative

What an appropriate handle. See my previous post: Barack Obama has been a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago for 20 years.

BTW, CNN reports today that Obama’s poll numbers have surged so he’s now essentially tied with Hillary Clinton. So much for “unelectable.”

  6. As this Country ran fine for nearly 200 years without an income tax, until 1913….

Watch this video to see how the Federal Reserve has ruined the US.

Any one that plans to destroy the IRS and income taxes and restore all our rights that the Patriot Acts took away….definitely has my vote.

Ron Paul is the true candidate for the People and putting their money back in their pocket! Give him a vote to show washington we are care about:

    1) the $9 Trillion dollar national Debt the US owes to Foreigners
    2) the unfunded liabilities totaling $60 Trillion coming due soon
    3) the Federal Reserve Printing Money out of thin Air (very inflationary)
    4) The US is now the bankrupt and the Most in Debt Country in the Histrory of the World?

Please ask your candidates what they are going to do about this crisis?

If this debt was called in today, the US would totally collapse. I don’t hear Obama, Clinton, Huckabee, or Romney talk about this very much at all. They will continue to borrow from the Chinese and put this country further in debt.

While the chinese continues to build a massive Military from all the money they are making on imports Americans buy from China. Funding the Chinese Military is a serious mistake, especially when the US owes the most money to them!

I don’t care if the candidate is liberal, or conservative…right now this country needs to act financially responsible and needs someone in office that will focus on these issues otherwise the US is ending just like the Roman Empire…in total bankruptcy!
