CNET blogger: Apple’s gotten in over its head with the iPhone

Don Reisinger asks via CNET’s Crave, “Is Apple in over its head with the iPhone?”

“Has Apple gotten in over its head trying to play the same game it always has with its other devices without realizing that the cell phone industry is an entirely different beast altogether? Sadly, I think it has,” Reisinger opines.

“If Apple has learned nothing else, the company now knows that in the cell phone industry, relying on good looks and hype won’t get the job done,” Reisinger writes. “Let’s face it — Apple’s Macs perform well because they’re sleek, powerful and run an operating system that most people like. The company’s iPods sell extremely well because they’re easy to use and have always provided an end-to-end solution with iTunes that has yet to be matched. But what about the iPhone?”

Reisinger writes, “Sure, Apple may have already sold 4 million iPhones since June and that’s a success story by itself, but in this business, longevity is difficult to maintain and competitors are always ready to release something better.”

Don, the next time you have nothing of importance to write, don’t write anything.

Click Don’s name and CNET makes this much clear: “Don Reisinger is a technology columnist… [and] a member of the CNET Blog Network… He is not an employee of CNET.” If even CNET is disowning you, you’ve got problems.

Excuse our French, but we’re tired of slogging through nonsense written by fscking idiots.

  1. “Along those lines, why was Apple caught off guard by the immense unlocking community that has done all it can to make sure the iPhone would work on any GSM network? Didn’t the company know that unlocking is commonplace in the business? If it did, why did it fail to realize that by locking the iPhone down, an enormous group of individuals would blaze the path that ultimately led to about a 30 percent unlocking rate?”
If the iPhone isn’t the most attractive piece of technology, why are so many trying to use it all over the world? A really poor analysis by someone who has not used this wonderful device.

  2. I like that most people have an ipod (ave $200) and razr like phones (ave $200).

    And the smart people get the iphone ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

No really. It is such a good deal for what you get. And have yet to meet someone who owns one that is not impressed.

  3. What these other companies don’t get, whether it’s the Mac, iPod, or iPhone, is that the look and design is only the start of the product. Apple uses quality hardware – the iPhone and iPod Touch sport glass screens instead of plastic. Ever see a Treo or Blackberry with a glass screen?

The real killer is the software, and now, specifically OS X. No phone or mp3 player manufacturer can come close to OS X.

Finally, the other manufacturers think that if you dress up a phone/mp3 player with cool-looking plastic and a flashy splash screen that you’ll fool the masses and win new customers. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig, and still acts like a pig.

Until these other manufacturing companies figure that out, Apple will have very little competition.

  4. If you cant see that Apple is so far ahead of the rest – you are stupid, and we can not help you.

No-one can match the iPhone, and in 2 years when they get close, Apple will have moved even further ahead.

Maybe Micro$hit will bring out a new zzunephone?
    ROTFLMAO!

These analysts have a serious case of recto-cranial inversion.

  5. “competitors are always ready to release something better.”

he does have a point, Apple doesn’t have to worry about that on OS side of things…. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  6. MDN – shouldn’t the link to the article be flagged “Think before you Click ™” ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

Hmmm – so what is the deal in Germany? Their population is about 1/4th of the US – so is that iPhone is not 3G the issue over there?

  7. “”Let’s face it “

I love when dipsh!ts start off with “Let’s face it” like he’s privy to some information we all don’t know, and then just blabbers about his opinion without any facts to back them up.

BTW, Apple doesn’t just create a product that is “relying on good looks and hype”. If that were the case, the iPod would have just been another also-ran digital music player. We all know how that one turned out.

  8. “While the story maybe garbage Mac Daily News take on anything Apple is that Apple can do no wrong.”

Actually no. Been reading this site for years and I can say if Apple f’s up, MDN does call them on it. The problem is, Apple gets so many things right that it just SEEMS like they are kissing Steve’s butt.

What they DO here is call out retard bloggers and writers who talk out their asses and make commentary based on false or misleading (or in some cases zero) information.

  9. “Sure, Apple may have already sold 4 million iPhones since June and that’s a success story by itself, but in this business, longevity is difficult to maintain and competitors are always ready to release something better.”

Damn. I guess it really is a shame that Apple has stopped all iPhone development since the initial release. It really is too bad that they didn’t have the foresight to continue R&D;, and plan improved models in the future. Or… Do you suppose that maybe, just maybe, Apple does have plans of revisions in the future? Nah, of course not.

  10. ” longevity is difficult to maintain”

Well it may be difficult to attain but once you’ve had a long life, you’ve had longevity and that can’t be taken away even if you die so there’s no issue maintaining the attribute.

Even so, Apple is far from having longevity in the cell phone market so there’s nothing to maintain yet. Longevity is still to be attained and, as far as I can see, Apple is on its way for that.

So many words, so little meaning.

  11. I dunno. There may be a germ of truth here. Apple has clearly lobbed a grenade onto the crowd of the other players in the cell phone arena. So far, they haven’t really recovered or responded. It seems to me that it is too soon to tell whether the other players are killed, wounded or merely temporarily stunned. The iPhone is a great phone, even, arguably, the greatest phone ever, but still, it isn’t for everyone, just like the MacBook Air is marvelous, but not right for everyone.
