Steve Jobs’ Macworld Expo keynote speech leaked online or just a hoax?

“It’s either an incredibly elaborate hoax or Apple Inc.’s CEO Steve Jobs is one unhappy camper this morning: It appears notes for his highly anticipated Macworld keynote address may have been leaked onto the internet last night, posting on the popular online encyclopedia web site Wikipedia,” Jim Goldman reports for CNBC.

MacDailyNews Note: This is actually at least the second time it has been posted after being removed last Thursday. See Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ Macworld keynote leaked? – January 10, 2008

Goldman continues, “No one knows whether the purported “draft notes” of the keynote are legit since Jobs’ keynote is normally one of the best kept secrets in the tech world. But these notes mirror much of the speculation making the rounds about what to expect when Jobs takes the stage Tuesday morning in San Francisco.”

Goldman covers what the purported leak outlines — and offers an online poll, “Do you think Steve Jobs’ speech was leaked or is it a big hoax?” — in his full article here.

We’ll know for sure if this is real or just a hoax soon enough.

  1. I hope that’s not it – not as exciting as everyone is expecting. I could care less about downloading Youtube videos to my computer. Doesn’t that also open itself up to copyright problems(or does Youtube have a clause saying “If you post it on here(and you own the rights to it…) then we retain right to freely distribute”?)

  2. There are 2 falseful information in that speech.

One is regarding mac pro updates which Apple already did and other is saying that 3 ipod models are doing well. Actually apple holds 4 ipod models ipod touch, ipod nano, ipod classic and ipod shuffle.

  3. “But these notes mirror much of the speculation making the rounds about what to expect when Jobs takes the stage Tuesday morning in San Francisco.”

Oh my god… It mirrors the publics expectations? Then it must be true. It’s not as if anyone could possibly compile a short list of wants and expectations…

  4. Fake because:

    1.
Jobs would never offer a laptop DVD drive that wasn’t slot loading, and this one “pops open”.

    2.
The price of the 8GB iPhone will go down, not remain at $399.

    3.
“One more thing”, the most exciting point in the whole keynote, will certainly be more exciting than a new partnership.

    4. & 5.
    See Ghost’s post, above.

  5. @ Eric

Steve already announced the upgraded Mac Pros. And i feel the purported leak is/was too close too what’s been talked about in cyberspace.

    My 2-cent twisted logic.

That and my own hope that there’s gonna be a spectacular “one more thing” from Steve.

Hey, nobody said these things hv to make any sense right? ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  6. For those just hearing about this and wondering … As MDN notes, this is not the first leak of this same document. It has been up and down a few times and it changes each time. To believe it’s real, you have to believe that someone is leaking the SteveNote, not getting caught, and then leaking the next revision, and the next, etc. A lot of what it says seems very likely though, so I would expect at least half or more of it to be real, but the majority of it is more likely fake than not.

One of the things that make me feel it’s not real are the grammatical errors, (“completely aluminium” is not a phrase that a grown person should use for instance.) On the other hand, it is the USA we are talking about ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

Also, the biggest rumour, is not dealt with at all. That AppleTV is getting some kind of upgrade combined with a content rental/sales deal.

Also, as others have noted, the “one more thing” is watching YouTube in iTunes as opposed to your browser? Even if true, it’s hardly anything that needs to be given the holy “one more thing” spot. If that turns out to be true people are going to be throwing cabbages at the stage.

  7. @MacSheikh,

Ever heard of a little thing called sarcasm? hehehe

I never read the purported stevenote on Wikipedia, and would not waste my time… At least not until AFTER the actual thing takes place… That I am even replying here, indicates that I am bored and have nothing better to do today (which is entirely true), but even so, I am not going to waste brain cells reading what is undoubtedly a hoax on WIkipedia (assuming they haven’t pulled it and locked the article by now).
