Piper Jaffray: Apple’s holiday Mac sales expected to be up 43-percent year-over-year

“Apple later this month is expected to announce fiscal first quarter revenues of nearly $10 billion for the three-month period ending December, fueled largely by the ongoing resurgence of the company’s personal computer business, according to one Wall Street analyst,” Slash Lane reports for AppleInsider.

“In a research note issued to clients Monday, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster downplayed concerns surrounding Apple’s retail channels, saying he expects the company to announce record first quarter sales of approximately 2.3 million Macs,” Lane reports.

“He noted that data from market research firm NPD for the first two months of the December quarter indicates that Mac sales growth was up some 60 percent year-over-year. Figuring conservatively, the analyst said sales of 2.3 million Macs would indicate growth of 43 percent year-over-year compared to 28 percent yearly growth during the same quarter last year,” Lane reports.

  1. For anyone looking for any significant improvement in the Mac line up, with increased sales like this – you can forget about it.

Except for some mostly useless ultra thin MacBookAir or somesuch, you are not going to get a performance breakthrough with MacPro or a decent iMac.

Too bad – just wonder what might have been.

  2. I’d really like a MacPro light. I have two flat panels already… I don’t want to buy another… and at $2300, the macpro is pricey for me. Well, perhaps I will have to get a 24″ iMac instead, once the penryns come out in it.

i am sure you have some sort of twisted logic for this, but i am glad you spared us….

Well, I think the current Macpros pretty much ROCK. What more would someone want? Even backing down to the single quad core it is a great machine.

When has Apple rested on their laurels in the past 5 years? Like someone on the top is going to say, “yeah, we innovated our way to 43% growth, now we can start to suck?”

  5. Keep in mind that memory prices, both RAM and flash, have collapsed. The semiconductor companies boosted production to meet the increased anticipated demand for new computers designed to run the bloatware called “Vista.” The increased unit sales for Macs go hand in hand with spectacular margins on those sales.

The January 22 guidance call with Apple executives will be a jaw dropper for the analyst/pundit armies.

  6. Sorry. What other dungeon is so dark as one’s own heart! What jailer so inexorable as one’s self!
