Apple has removed Cinema Displays from the front page of Apple Store Online.
However, you can still find the CInema Displays by clicking on “Accessories” and then “Displays.”
Jason O’Grady blogs for ZDNet, “Non-conspiracists will maintain that Apple did it to make room for the Christmas items that they’re featuring, but I’m not buying… Apple’s current Cinema Displays were released at WWDC in June 2004 and three and a half years is an eternity in consumer electronics.”
O’Grady writes, “Apple’s new Cinema Displays will most likely feature LED backlighting, an HDMI port, a built-in iSight camera and a new industrial design. If they only come with a glossy finish, look for a boycott and protest–at least from me. New Cinema Displays will most likely get unveiled at Macworld Expo on 15 January 2008.”

About friggin time
Add in infrared to use an Apple Remote with a Mac Pro (and the iSight camera) and you have a sale.
gimme gimme gimme that HDMI
Will they be price competitive this time?
Hmmm…
How ’bout new towers to go along with new displays?
Haven’t heard anything on that, but Intel does have some fine new silicon…
What’s the value there? Will it have multi-touch integrated so I can control the temperature of my heating or cooling system, things like that? Will it make my home more science fiction?
If it doesn’t represent a step forward in the home of the future, there’s no value there.
If they use LED and are as large as the current model offerings, you can throw out hopes of them being price competitive.
Also, I think they are hesitant about putting iSights in them due to potential workplace restrictions on such items, especially given the target buyers of the CD’s.
Personally, I love the current Industrial Design. I think some new internals and an easier way to use them as an HDTV would be more than enough of a change. But that’s just me.
Glossy is great. Apple should provide a choice though.
Who cares… Apple’s Displays are ridiculosy over priced anyway… who can afford these things besides movie studios?
The Mac Pro and the Cinema displays needed a refresh a long time ago. I’ve been surprised at Apple’s neglect of this line.
What are the chances they’ll look like the most recent iMacs just without the chin?
The design is fine. I don’t think we’ll see a new look until the Mac Pro design is revamped, and that doesn’t sound like it will happen this time around..
They definitely need a price cut though.. They are extremely over-priced at the moment..
Built in iSight is unlikely in my opinion because Cinema displays are geared towards pros whom generally have multiple displays on the desktop.. Seems like a waste to have multiple built in iSights in a single workstation.
I think they will be very different than the iMac’s just to have some separation between the consumer and pro product lines.
Oh yeah, and glossy…. THEY BETTER NOT!
I hope they look similar to the iMacs. That will help all the dual display folks (me)- Buy a 24″ iMac and a 24″ display, yipee. I really don’t need the atom smashing power of the powermac, but I like dual displays.
If Jobs comes on the stage and says something like ‘everyone wants a glossy screen’ like he did when introducing the latest iMac, I’m going to stand up in the audience and yell: NO, THEY DON’T! Be listening for me.
I’m expecting built-in iSight. Vast majority of buyers are single-display types. Those who buy dual represent negligible percentage; so do those whose workplace has restrictions on webcam usage. Apple never goes for the lowest common denominator; they go for what majority wants. Denying the majority iSight just because 2% don’t want it or don’t need it would be un-Apple.
Dear Jason,
When it comes to the environment glossy is a good choice.
And besides – we know you really like boyscotts – mmmm mmm.
As for the new Apple Cinema Displays… Yes, Apple will be hosting a new line. Yet, for all the advancements – I am buying it.
thx

Got two 30″ CDs stacked. Building an aluminum frame for them this weekend.
nice… this is good news to me. i hope they put the isight in ’em too!
Apple has already been boycotted by me this holiday season because all the iMacs are glossy only.
Talk about a hardware/OS lock-in. SHESH!
THATS NO $6000 FO YOU APPLE!!
And yes I visited the mothership t-shirt
Read what glossy reflective screens will do to your eyes first before buying that shiny screen Mac.
Google for Computer Vision Syndrome.
Next Google for “polls, glossy, matte”
Be surprised, Apple is causing numerous people eye damage.
If people want to smoke and risk their health, fine. But don’t make the rest of us suffer. Same with glossy screens.
Apple is on retard mode lately.
I see no need for an iSight in a display. In a computer–yes. In a display–no.
I also hope they’re better priced. Right now, other manufacturer’s offer more features and better warranties at lower prices. Which is a shame, looking at Apple’s other products.
If Apple were to release a more powerful Mac mini ( Mac midi ), this sort of display would be a must-have.
Perhaps the time has come at last for the headless Mac that sits somewhere between the mini and the towers. Similar spec to an iMac, but readily upgradeable.
