“Intel will up the ante again on January 6, 2008 with its new 45nm Penryn-based Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme dual core processors,” Brandon Hill blogs for DailyTech.
“It’s highly plausible that the chips could make their first appearance at CES 2008 (January 7, 2008) with further unveils at MacWorld 2008 in Apple’s oft-rumored tablet, revamped MacBook Pros or refreshed iMac desktops,” Hill reports.
“Apple’s current MacBook Pro makes use of the Core 2 Duo T7500, T7700 and T7800 65nm Merom processors which will be phased out in favor of the new [Penryn] T8300, T9300 and T9500. Likewise, the current iMac uses Core 2 Duo T7250, T7700 and Core 2 Extreme X7900 processors which are being replaced by the [Penryn] T8100, T9300 and X9000,” Hill reports.
More info including launch prices for the new processors here.
Another example of how Intel and Apple are in cahoots in their marketing strategy to hold back the release of technology until it’s time to suck some more money from the bank accounts of their customers who can’t stand not to have the latest of anything. We are such suckers!

Macworld ’08 gonna create even more buzz than Macworld ’07.
Uh…I’m pretty sure that the current macbook Pros use the Santa Rosa Processors, and the previous models used the Merom ones…
Loru,
Santa Rosa is the chip set not the processor.
@Darth Mac
More than Macworld 07?
That’ll be possible only if Steve is about to introduce something more revolutionary than the iPhone…
Let’s wait and see…
Great! …but WHEN will there be a super low power non battery sucking 3G capable Intel processor in the iPhone.
The iPhone is good, but really needs the interface to be snappier…an Intel processor could solve several issues and push the envelope further. 45nanowhatevers could do the trick.
Crap…I just updated both my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro.
Oh well ya gotta dive into the pool sometime.
And – by this time next year – Santa Rosa will be history having been superseded by Montevina.
nuthin’ new on the mac pro ?
ha , glad i bought mine in jul and didn’t listen to those idiots at macrumors
wild bill – you moron
ahaha
@ OZZ
It’s only gonna be possible with the introduction of a revolutionary ultra-portable laptop with mutli-touch + revolutionary keyboard + stylus etc. The kind of thing that will set the new standard for laptops.
To that you can add some updates to the iPhone/iPod Touch and even Apple TV, all available through an upgraded version of iTunes.
Macworld ’07 gave a new direction to Apple and technology in general. Macworld ’08 will see Apple taking a couple of giant steps in that direction…
There will almost without doubt be a Mac Pro update (I mean, it’s been the same since its release!), but no one seems to really care about it since it appeals to such a tiny market and tiny percentage of Mac users.
There’s gotta be a super-portable laptop coming. My guess would be around a 11-12 inch screen size with iPhone-esque capability built in. That would be cool.

You may be a sucker; I’m not. I’m still using a 2 1/2 year old PowerBook G4. It still kicks any Windows laptop where it hurts.
It’s the software, not the processor, that makes a Mac a Mac.
You right m@c !!! People have never seen a laptop like the one coming. Apple’s gonna kick ass at Macworld ’08. You mark my words !!!
Why am I so sure? ‘Cause Steve Jobs said himself that the computers that are coming next year are off the chart !!!
@ @flappo,
MacPro may appeal to few Mac users but it’s the ONLY Mac in the lineup that I use and give a damn about.
